Speer Bullets and Random cases and Blue Dot

Good Evening, I have been working towards gathering the equipment, supplies and registered in a reloading class at my LGS to begin this new endeavor. My goal is simply to supply myself with consistent range ammo. I have a couple of newbie questions in regards to re-loading 10mm. I think I have 2 basic questions. Keep in mind that I have already bought things. everything is hard to find.

1 - Can you use ANY case with any given Primer or Powder combination?

2 - Can you use ANY Large Pistol Primer with any given Case or Powder combination?


I am hoping that my powder bullits and case combinations will all work together once I get the primers that the 10mm Gods provide. This question arose as I was searching Speers web site for load data. They indicate their data is in combination of hornady bullits, CCi 300 Primers and Speer 180 TMJ.

I bought 180Gr Speer TMJ.
I bought Alliant Blue Dot.
I have random used cases like Federal, Sig, Ammo Inc, Underwood, etc all once fired through my revolver.
I don't yet have any large pistol primers (hard to find and you get what you get I guess?!?!)

I personally run mixed headatamp process brass. 10 to 10.2 grains of blue dot under my 180 grain bullet of choice, and have some fun. I typically use my coated Hardcast in many different 10mm guns.

Welcome RHhunter,
For me, I prefer Starline brass, and CCI LG pistol primers, however with availability as it is, or the lack thereof, I'm pretty sure most any brass / LG pistol primers would work providing your primers are seated correctly, your cases are resize correctly, and your OAL / powder charge is accurate. Thanks for the responses. I figured that the quality of the brass and proper type of primer matched to the powder were more important than brand name. Of course there is the issue of getting what you pay for.

I reload 10mm for a Glock model 40 and a Ruger SR1911. 10.5 grs of blue dot with 180 gr xtp bullet get me 1330fps and excellent accuracy. Good luck and be careful.

Yep, BD and or BE-86 have produced some great results for me, BD being the best for accuracy when using 10.4gr with a 180gr XTP or HAP

Absolutely find 10.4gr's of Blue Dot to be seriously accurate under a 180gr XTP or HAP

You will seldom find components to match your data, but that's ok.

It's why there is a "start" load. (lowest charge shown)

This is where you can use different but like components, as this is a low pressure level.

So begin loading at the start load and work up watching for pressure signs.

Don't go lower than start load unless you want to stick a bullet in the barrel.
