Has anyone here ever attempted a conversion of a LAR Grizzly in 10mm to 10mm Mag?

If so, I would like to hear some comments.

Anyone familiar with the Grizzly's can weigh in also.  Thanks

Harleycolt

There was a thread about someone doing it but that was a few years back. I've thought about it myself.

Thanks for the reply.

I ran a search on the topic and came up with nothing.  I do not have the 10 mm conversion for my 45 Win Mag and they are expensive so I would like a little guidance first.

I also would like to try a 357 Rem Mag conversion to 357 Auto Mag.  I know a guy who did that one and it works great.

I will keep looking.

As a newbe to this site...

I tried an AR in 10mm mag years!! Ago, I could never get it to run 100%. I'm sure it was just me, just food for thought. Those long straight cartridges need perfect angles.  357 amp is so easy to form.....

The feeding of a long, slender cartridge is one thing I am worried about.

Also the extractor-ejector function.

I was looking for a 357 mag barrel and came onto a 10 mm conversion and I started thinking about the 10mm Mag.

I talked to the guy who sold this and he has shot just about all the Grizzly calibers and he said his 357 AMP was his favorite.  The bottleneck design should work great in the grizzly.  The price on this one went way outa site IMO.

Well I found a source for 357 Auto Mag barrels for the Grizzly!    :)

They have not announced them yet so I won't post it here.

A 10mm Magnum LAR Grizzly barrel sold on GunBroker about 6 months ago.
It was a 10mm Auto barrel rechambered to Magnum.

I trust your expertise Tony, do you see any problems with this conversion on the Grizzly?

Harleycolt

I have a friend that says the cost to convert one would be about a $1000 including a new barrel.

You need to buy a 10mm conversion kit and they are not cheap.  That gives you the magazine, barrel, extractor, ejector, and bushing.

You would need to purchase or find someone with a 10mm reamer and remove the spacer in the magazine and you should be set.

I would really like to talk to someone that has done it to see what problems if any you might run into.

Thanks for the link, it looks to be feasible at least.  I had not really thought about the magazine follower but that should not be a major problem.

I am having second thoughts about the whole thing.  The 10mm conversions cost as much as a normal gun does and I have not found anything but 5.4" barrels and I would like something longer.  It is possible they never made any other lengths.

I have not given up the idea, just giving it more thought.  I am still going to go ahead with the 357 Auto Mag conversion.

They did do so 6.5" barrels and even fewer 8 and 10 inch ones as well. Think they were special order though. Think my friend from Michigan bought a 10mm magnum conversion off of gun broker a few months ago. I'll check with him to see for sure and if he likes it.

I would appreciate hearing his opinion and if there are any problems as far as the conversion.  I'm leaning toward abandoning the project right now but with some encouragement who knows.   ;)

Thanks for your input

Found a guy in Texas who has his Grizzly converted to 10mm Mag and researched it for a year before he did his.

He runs the 45 Win Mag recoil spring, extractor, and ejector.  He's running a 45 Win Mag magazine even with the feed lips modified.  The guy he got most of his info from has run about 2000 flawless rounds through his with the same setup.

His is a 6 1/2" barrel and I am trying to find one.  He thinks a 5.4" barrel with a Grizzly Comp would be a good setup also.
