I found some Federal 180 FMJ at a local store. It was going for $17.99 p/50 so, what the heck. I was under the impression that it was relatively light shootin stuff.  But, looking at the data on the box I see that they are claiming 1200' p/sec. WTH?

So I go to the Federal site and see that they are stating 1030' p/sec.

Anyone have any independant info?

Thanks for the info.
I don't see a date on the list. How old is that data?
I've reached out to Federal and will report back their response.

Well, Federal confirmed 1030. They didn't mention why their box says 1200 ...

I shot some over my chronograph out of my GP100 with a 4.2" barrel, chronograph at 5' from the muzzle. Ten rounds averaged 1085 fps, so I think the 1030 fps from the web site is about what should be expected.

Why even make it at that power level? And why the difference in the stated velocity on the box? I t really makes me question Federal' honesty and quality.

I just put that exact same ammo on the chronograph today out of my Glock 20 with a stock length KKM Barrel.

Velocities were as follows: 1173, 1173, 1192, 1165, 1176 FPS, chronograph 10 feet in front of muzzle.

My box says 1200 FPS, so they are really close to advertised velocities and very consistent. Probably would have easily been over 1200 FPS if I was using 5in + Barrel.

This ammo was purchased in May 2020.

Hope this helps!
