Anyone else competed in GSSF with the 10mm?

When I bought my G29 4 years ago, I was amazed at how accurate it was and how well it handled warmer loads.

I was at a local gun shop/range and they said I should try my hand at their monthly indoor GSSF match.  My G29 was the only Glock I owned at the time, so it was what I showed up with for my first match.

They chuckled and said I should probably have gone with the G19 or G34.

I shot the next three matches with a stock G29 and my watered down reloads of 5.7 grains of Unique and 180gr Hornady XTPs.  I ended up winning my class.

I got hooked on GSSF and retired the G29 to woods duty only, and tried a G19, then a G35.  Still haven't got a perfect 500, but have gotten a few in the 490's.

Anyone else used the G29 or G20 for GSSF?

I'd never even heard of the GSSF until your post, but I used to shoot quite a bit of steel challenge and USPSA matches with a Glock 20 loaded with full-house bear loads (226 grain hardcast @ 1100 fps). It was great fun. But the problem with 10mm, especially in the USPSA matches, is that I'd lose most of my brass. In a 250 round match, that got expensive.

Mostly I compete with a .40 (Glock 35), which doesn't throw brass nearly as far, and it's not unheard of to find brass other people left behind. I was dabbling with the idea of buying a STI for competition, so I talked to the president of the local shooting club. He says they're great...he has two...and they sit in the safe on match day while he uses a Glock 17 pimped out with a $40 trigger job. I asked him why and he said "because I shoot it better".

I have always said if I get to finally shoot a match, I will shoot what I carry, which is a G29 with a +2 pearce.

I believe you're thinking of the large GSSF outdoor matches.  Those are few and far between and the nearest one to me is about 300 miles.

The smaller indoor matches are much more plentiful.  There are two within 75 miles of me held every month, and I live in the middle of nowhere.

I shot several of their(GSSF) outdoor matches in the mid/late 90s. First couple with a G19.

Then I shot one with my G20 and IIRC some 155gr reloads (light load). Shot fine but the one thing that sticks in my memory was that the plates went down with authority compared to the 9mm, even if they were just clipped. I used my most warn brass, knowing I wouldn't see them again. Good times and lots of comments from the staff.

After that I shot a few GSSF matches with my G26.

Always a good time.

I have a dueling tree with 5" plates.  Shooting with 10mm is a real handicap as you have to wing the plate.  A solid hit will move it so fast it rebounds back to your side.

I enjoy shooting GSSF matches with my 10mm gu ns. I shoot my 29 in major sub and my 20 in heavy metal. I used to also shoot my 20 in the guardian event but after winning a 17 I use it in that event to conserve brass.  Although sometimes I load 40s&w brass since I can pick it up at the range and losing it is not painful

I recently shot GSSF with my Holosun-equipped G17 and my G20.  I won both divisions and got a Perfect 500 with the G17.  I got a 494 with the G20 but didn't quite qualify for the patch with it.

Local range runs GSSF three weekends a month. I shoot them sometimes just for a random chance to win a gun.

This month,just for fun, they are running a special challenge only for G29.G30 and G37. I plan to shoot my G29 which I usually carry when I am at my pig hunting land.

I took it to the range the other day and shot my hunting loads with a 180 XTP. Pretty stout in that little gun. I had some I had loaded lighter and they were better to target shoot with.
I may drop down even more in Longshot powder to try to get a softer shooting round for this match, should be fun.
The course this month has a 15 yard max so I practiced at that distance. G29 is pretty dang accurate!
