I talked with the S&W Custom Shop regarding my 1026 decocking/safety problem. The technicians ask me to return it to them. The S&W 1026 is my favorite 10MM. I plan to have the Adj. night sight added to the work over. The S&W 1026 was produced for the Virginia State Police. The VSP was not pleased with the 1026 and canceled the order in 1990. S&W corrected the problems and those guns have 2 punch marks under the Decock lever. The police 1026 10MM will fire without a magazine being inserted. The 1026 will be in surgery for some time. That is OK my S&W 1006 10MM will fill in nicely 8)

does S&W even have parts left for the 1026? a little while back I sent my S&W mod. 59 back to S&W. (worn hammer) they kept it for almost a year. they didn't have a spurred hammer and finally sent it back with a bobbed hammer.

Gads, sorry to hear. S&W has GR8 customer service believe me they'll do their level best to make it right.

Blaster I'm surprised they did not have a matching hammer though, there are likely many thousands of S&W obsolete parts including hammers out there :-)  I may have spare hammers for a 59. If shooting it DAO the first shot is bothersome, I'll scrounge around in my parts bins to see if I have one I can send you.

thanks gnappi, S&W may not have parts anymore but I have found other sources that do have parts (used) for the old S&W autos. as far as the bobbed hammer, I have gotten used to it and the only time I miss the spur is when I rarely want to take a single action first shot. that is when I'm at the range and I can just rack the slide and not de-cock the pistol.

Good to hear. I also rarely use the hammer spur and then only in the event of a high or HARD primer and give it a second go at the round.

JB, I'm more than a little  surprised that S&W would do any work on a long out of production 3rd. Gen semi auto. I'm a fan of both the S&Ws and the 10MM cartridge; had multiple 1006s, 1076s, 1026s and a couple 610s.  I acquired my last 1026 LNIB some years ago. I'm trying to hang on to this one. Nice used S&W 10MMs are not so common anymore.

Glad S&W is helping you out with yours.

What type of problem are you having with the 1026?

Jim Bridger

Sorry I missed this post's responses. The 3rd Gen S&W line remains under warrenty. S&W will inspect 3rd Gen if warrenty applies it is covered. I have found all the parts for a 10MM S&W on EBay and at MidwayUSA that I have needed. I much  prefer S&W 's workmanship over our local shops. I replaced the extractor and spring in a 1006. It reuses to work. I don't want to  return the firearm to S&W over that small issue.
