CMMG Banshee 10mm MK10 or SIG Rattler 300 BLK?

I've been drawn to the SBR platforms lately, and am kind of torn between the Banshee 10mm and the Sig Rattler. But I don't own anything in 300 BLK, and am not sure I want to add a new caliber to the collection, especially one that is so spendy.

The upside to the Rattler is being able to use all of my AR mags in the crossover, even though it will cost a lot more to shoot. The downside to the Banshee is that I'll need specific SMG Glock mags to run it reliably, and even then I may need to swap out the buffer now and then to make the more powerful 10mm loads run smoothly.

10mm factory range ammo can be had at fair prices, which makes the CMMG cheaper to shoot over the long term. And I have to admit, that CMMG radial delayed blowback system looks cool as all get out.

The Rattler is a piston system, whereas the Banshee is a traditional impingement and buffer/spring design.

Yes, the Sig is quite a bit more expensive out the door than the Banshee, but that's not a primary concern.

Thoughts between these two?

PS: I don't reload, and don't plan to, so please don't add it to the discussion as a decision-making factor.

.300 and 10mm don't have a lot in common...pick which one suits you best.

Magazines for the Banshee are cheap...$25. Hardly a big investment. How many do you really need, anyway?

Buffers are no big deal...the buffers the Banshee ships with will handle all factory loads, including the boutique nuclear loads. They'll just batter the gun a little more. The heavy buffer is $60, which is negligible when you compare the cost of the two weapons.

Since these are just range-toys for throwing a lot of rounds down range, I'd go with the cheaper ammo. I've been very happy with my Banshee. It's proven to be more reliable than my Glocks, which is saying something.

good luck.

I have no thoughts between those two.

I will say that assembling a 300 blackout AR pistol could be completed for about $400-500.  You can buy a bunch of 300 blackout ammo for the $1100 left over.  Like 1500 rounds of subsonic OTPB, or around 2500 rounds of 124-147 grain supersonic.  And that is right now during panic pricing.

I have not bitten off building a 10mm AR, and I have a fair bit of AR build experience.  Not that I couldn't, but even with factory guns it seems to often take a fair bit of tinkering.  But a 300 blackout is pretty straightforward.  I did a blackout carbine as my second build and it has been 100% reliable.  I am on the lookout now for a 8-10" blackout barrel for a pistol build.

Thanks for the input.

I think I'm going to go with the Banshee. If I already had something in 300 BLK I'd probably lean towards the Rattler, but I just don't feel like adding a new caliber to the mix right now.

I'll follow up with pics once she gets here!

The Banshee is fun! Worthless in any world you'd want to live in, but fun!

All my gen-4 Glock magazines work flawlessly, and I prefer them to the 30-round magazines because they provide a better balance to the weapon.

Hot loads will deform the brass beyond reloading, but since you're not reloading that doesn't matter.

I grease the arms of the radial blow back system, and I've not had any of the deformation some others have reported.

The Banshee is the only weapon I've ever put a laser on, and it's a splendid platform for a laser. I'd opt for a good laser and iron sights over a good holographic sight and no laser. I happened to have a good holographic sight on hand and only had to buy the laser, but given the choice I'd put the money into a laser for close quarters shooting, and iron sights for longer range shooting.

My Banshee was super-accurate with S&B 180 FMJ ammo, FWIW.

Funny aside...when I bought my Banshee I thought that it was probably the most useless but entertaining gun I'd ever coveted. I was right...it's useless, but entertaining...

Useless or not, I'm looking forward to owning one one day 😊

Thanks for this post - it is a huge help!!

One quick question, what do you mean by the "arms" of the radial blowback. Do you mean the angled bolt lugs?

Muskrat

Yes...the angled bolt lugs is what I was referring to.

Just ordered the CMMG MK10 (Banshee) 300.

Hopefully their delays aren't too bad. Sounds like this "defund the police" nonsense is wiping out inventory across the country.  >:(

It's sure not helping anything, that's for sure
