I'd agree with Mike D. If it makes a difference in it's original configuration and solves the problem, that's what the problem was. If it doesn't make a difference, and I don't think it will, look to another solution. Don't forget the other end of that spring keeps the slide stop in. Plunger springs aren't terribly strong or you would have difficulty getting the gun apart.

Kenk

Thanks, the replacement spring should arrive today or tomorrow, and will let you know

Mike D / Graybeard,
Any thoughts on who offers a stronger plunger spring that would work in the ROCK Ultra FS HC - 10mm? Shawn, RIA's head gunsmith recommended this, but opted out of telling me where to get one. Any direct URL's to get one would be great
Thanks again!

I don't know of anyone that markets an extra strength plunger tube spring. That's not to say that some aren't stronger than others, I've just never seen one described that way. Remember though, the other end of that spring pushes on the plunger that prevents the slide stop from engaging prematurely. Too strong a spring may stop the slide stop from locking the slide on empty. I doubt that will occur as your double stack mags probably have pretty strong springs, as well.

EGW and other makers of fine 1911 parts sell plunger tube springs for about $1.50 a pop. You may have to send some emails or roll the 🎲 🎲.

RIA is having me send it to them for repair 😀

Kenk

RIA out of Nevada is impressive on their repair turnaround time. My Rock Ultra arrived last Friday and will be back in my hands this Friday by 8pm 😀

No, it's not to wide, and I do not ride the safety. Now that RIA worked on it, everything is good except for the safety engaging after 2 or three shots fired...same as before. I contacted Shawn Fairbairn, Armscor's  / Rock Island Armory Manager / Chief Gunsmith again today to find out what the next steps are, as this was not resolved the first time around. They told me previously the weapon's safety was tested, and all was good, but with what ammo were they testing with?, as much that I shoot is likely more jarring than their Armscor 180gr stuff, vs one of my favorites, UW's 135gr fun pack : ) Looking forward to Shawn's response

Ken

Ken I think you are going to find your hand position is causing the issue and nothing is faulty with the gun safety.

Thanks Mike, and yes, your likely correct on my improper hand positioning, plus I've yet to embrace the thumb resting on top of the paddle trick. Shawn from Armscor / Rock Island Armory sent me a an overpower plunger spring as he called it and should be arriving today or tomorrow. I will say, the ambi safety on my new P220 Hunter is pretty amazing, but at twice the cost of the RIA, it better be

Yeah..Definitely ride the safety on a 1911.

Ken's a lefty, like me. Riding an ambi safety can be a recipe for problems, depending on which ambi safety. My strong hand thumb pad always lands on the top grip screw. Easy and repeatable, it's always worked for me.

Kenk

Thanks Graybeard, will give it a try this weekend
