Double stack grip thinner than my G20?

I understand a Witness is, or feels, thinner than my Gen2 G20, but is it?  I'd really like a smaller grip.

Definitely is.  Even with the bulky stock grips.  Get some thin panels on there and it is very small compared to a Glock 20.

I own both and without messaging either the Witness feels slimmer. (please excuse my admittedly unscientific answer!)

Try the Springfield XDm 4.5 or 5.25. I have the 4.5 OSP and got it because the grip was smaller than that of the G40. Capacity is the same at 15+1.

Lone Wolf makes a large frame full grip (G20/G40) and a large frame short grip (G29) lower called the Timberwolf that reduces the front-to-back dimension by about 5mm and omits the finger grooves. The internals are mostly standard Glock in the cheapest option, but you can add some upgrades.

I have one for my G20 and for my smaller than average hands it makes a world of difference. If you already have a 10mm Glock I recommend it as a cheaper alternative than a new pistol. Plus you have the option of using the stock lower for another build (e.g. a PCC; I used mine as a dedicated lower for a MechTech) or selling it to offset the cost.

If you like the Glock platform, buy another frame and have a grip reduction and stipple job done with double undercut trigger guard.

Lone Wolf frame is also an option or  P80 lower if you don't want to hassle with another serialized part.

Approximate widths I have are:

G20 (Gen 3) 1.280"
XDm 10 1.266"
RIA M1911 A2 1.370"
Witness Hunter (stock wood grips) 1.380"
M1911 Govt issue 1.260" (for comparison)

These are all about the maximum widths for each.  Interestingly (at least to me), I have medium hands with somewhat short fat fingers, and by far the most comfortable of all the above double stacks would be the Witness Hunter.  By far the least comfortable, the G20, with the RIA a close second-least comfy.

Agreed, the Witness and Glock frames point differently. If you're  comfortable with a Glock, stick with it.

I recently installed some LOK grips on my Witness full-size.  Now measures 1.180"  Feels much, much thinner than with the factory rubber grips.
