Does anyone have any experience with these bullets or any of the other Maker 40 Cal bullets for the 10mm?  I bought a few and would like to work up some good loads with them but have not been able to find any load data at all.  They are solid copper hollow points and seem to be a little longer than even other 200 grain bullets I have loaded in the past.  I'm a bit worried about pressure since then are so long for 165 grains.  I'm going to start out low with some blue dot (9.6-9.8 gns) and work up but figured I would ask to see if anyone else has any experience with them first.

Thanks

Can you snap a pic of that bullet??

Thx

Had to create a link since the photos were too big.

Stupid question:

What do you expect these to do (for 66¢ each) that lead JHPs wouldn't do?

Some places you can't use bullets with lead

They appear to be slightly shorter than the 220 (226) grain Rim Rock hard-cast bullets, so figure there's roughly the same amount of displacement inside the case.

My warmest load with the 226 Rim Rock and blue dot was 8.5 grains...1100 fps from a bullet weighing almost twice as much as your copper bullets.

I don't know what conclusions to draw from all that, other than starting out at 8.5 grains would logically be completely safe. I'd be interested to hear the experts pontificate as to whether a long 165 grain bullet can be pushed as fast as a short 165 grain bullet without getting into pressure-spike territory.

I can see where you wouldn't want to burn through a lot of those bullets finding your load, but given that there's no published data, I think you might have to. Though as others have alluded to, if you aren't required to use a monolithic copper bullet you're probably not getting much juice for your squeeze. It seems like a defensive bullet rather than a hunting bullet. Are there any areas where lead defensive bullets are not allowed?

One of the scariest loads we saw was the Buffalo Bore using Barnes 155 grain Tac-XP with 11.0 grains of Power Pistol.  The powder was compressed in to a hard pill.
The Quick Loads showed excessive pressures, However people were shooting them...

I knew about the Maker P-REX bullets but haven't loaded any or tested them!  It would be nice to study some that were loaded and document the findings!

Loaded up.  I will try to Chrono them first then try to catch a few to see the expansion. I will post some pictures and data after I find an accurate load.  I only have blue dot right now though so the data will be limited to that powder.  going to try to get some BE-86 to try after blue dot.

^^^ I saw the same data you saw. Quickload shows these to have pressure at about 9 grains if I recall. I think Barnes shows a max charge of 8.9 grains so that coincides with QL. I have some loaded up to try out going all the way up to 11 grains but I'm kinda scared to shoot them. [emoji51]

Mike be to let me know what you see from those loads...
Here is what Intercooler found from the COP155 grain bullets I sent him matching the Buffalo Bore load:
Copper Only Projectile  155gr COP SCHP
Bullet Length 0.7120"/Dia. 0.3995"
September 27, 2013
Elite Limited 4.75"
QuoteCOP 155gr All Copper HP 11.0gr's Power Pistol (Buffalo Bore load) 1422, 1435, 1456, 1413. Average = 1431.5 FPS/ 706 LBS. Really happy with this level of performance and would love to see them in gel!

Will do when (if?) I get up the courage to shoot them. [emoji45]

Will likely try them in the converted GP100 6" first.

Shot some of these 165 GN Maker P-REX today at some clay blocks and this is what they did. I assumed the petals would bend back and not break off but both shots I took did the same thing.  I Chronoed them at between 1175-1200fps before shooting them into the clay.  I'm going to try to bring down the velocity and try again.  I used 9.1 and 9.3 GNs of blue dot.

This is what the clay looked like after.  You can see the copper petals where they rested.
