Thanks for the lead, I purchased 4 boxes also and will be in for the $20 back.

Uhhh...  Don't you need to spend $100 to receive the rebate?

sqlbullet

Yes.  The boxes are priced over $25 each on Speer's website.  $26.99 to be exact.

Oops...  Graf's was selling them for $20.26/100, and I just ordered more from Midway for $21.99/100.

Why they're cheaper than the 165gr Gold Dots, I don't know (and I'm not complaining).

sqlbullet

Yeah...I saw then cheaper on Grafs the day after I ordered.

Oh well.  They are on my shelf now waiting for the next time I run some 10mm.

In my hillbilly testing (shooting plastic jugs full of water) the 200 grain Gold Dot expands quite a bit more than the 200 grain XTP, and consequently penetrates less deeply.

Both bullets retain nearly 100% of their weight, so I'm not seeing any real advantage to the bonded bullet with handgun velocities.

For woods use, I think the XTP is a better choice. For town, the Gold Dot is maybe a little better.

Yes the XTP's are designed for deeper penetration. I used to carry them when I hunted coyote at night in my G20 as a backup in case I ran into something black and hairy with large K9 teeth and claws.

No more hollowpoints for me now that I have retired from LE here in NJ. Underwood Extreme Penetrators or hard cast now.

Is NJ still busting chops on HR218 carrying HP in the state? ( yes I know they are allowed by same )
Last hr218 class, they were saying to use/carry the critical duty plugged ammo.

Unfortunately the statute addresses all expanding rounds, not just hollowpoints.

There is presently a lawsuit underway against NJ for not allowing NJ retired officers to carry under the provisions of HR 218. Keeping our fingers crossed.

How absolutely absurd.

I don't know how you guys live under draconian measures like that.

I agree it's absurd, but of all the factors that factor into where a person lives, I'd consider it irrelevant to my decision matrix.

Not for me. I won't stand for overt tyranny.

My view is likely jaded as a I have always lived in a free state. Texas isn't perfect but it's a heck of a lot better than most.

Well I understand that viewpoint, and share it in ways.

But I guess that of all the things that make for a good life, being able to load hollow point bullets doesn't even register. I'd put it somewhere in importance between the distance to the nearest gravel quarry and whether you can buy single cigarettes at the quicky-mart.

Yes. Do I have to decide whether or not I live near my grown children or move to a state where I can carry hollowpoints?
