These barrier tests are always fun to watch. In water/flesh the heavy hardcast seem to penetrate like crazy. In this test the blocks are a hard barrier but the bullet that does the best is the lightest and fastest one, the solid copper XTreme Defender. Not the biggest concern but it got me to thinking if I carry mostly driving to/from work maybe I should consider carrying these again, bet they would do better on windshields and car doors than the others as well.

Well, I don't go around trying to kill concrete block varmints but the results are not what I would have predicted. I would have thought the 200gr would have been the penetrating king, not the bottom of the barrel. I would have assumed the 180gr Gold Dot to perform a ton better. I have the 140gr Penetrator bullets that I load. I don't have clue how fast I have them loaded up anymore but it all came together at the max load on the Lehigh website so I'm close to their speed. MY biggest complaint is over penetration on a hog which is one of my primary varmints. Here's the above link/vid:

Yeah I would have thought the hardcast would win. The 180gr is heavy but it's a softer bullet pushed faster than designed. Would have been interesting to see what a 180gr XTP did.

That's interesting you had overpenetration with a penetrator. I know they do penetrate well but I was actually concerned about using them giving up the weight of a hardcast. Did you hit any big bones? With a lung shot I would have expected an exit.

Bullets were pass thrus on shoulder shots. These were 350lb+ hogs. Yardage about 40 yds. Because of Lyme, Brucellosis, and rabies, we take a home made grappling hook on a chain and drag them off in brush. You can't make me touch one of those disease ridden critters as they are usually covered with ticks and fleas. Texas is a swine quarantine State.

I was surprised at the Extreme Defender. I am going with the "pointy" nose profile as being better at breaking through the block medium.

Was an interesting video, though there would have been more damage.
