Found a fixed sight 1006 to replace the adjustable sight 1006 that i sold to a motivated buyer a while back...I prefer the Novak sights anyway so it worked out in the end. I kept some spare mags knowing that another 10XX would soon be mine. Anyways...this was found at a pawn shop. It came with only one mag, no box, and it has some minor scuffing, otherwise it's in great condition. The 'then' price ($800) was too high for me, but after a couple of weeks of pondering I went back to see if it was still around. Luckily it was. They accepted a $650 offer and I'll pick it up tomorrow.
All 3rd Gens are some real sweet guns, But i especially like the 10s. This one's a keeper.

Cool 8) it should be quite the work horse for 10mm  :D...I opted for the Wolff Gun Springs 22 lbs & 24 lbs for mine.  usually only run the 22lbs though...

Perfect workhorse 10. They're so well built and stout. Thanks for the info on the springs!!

The days of finding a 1006 for <$500 is long over for the most part.  You might luck out and find someone who doesn't know or care what they have and price it the same as a .45 or 9mm 3rd gen S&W.  The OP paying $650 was lucky.  Expect to pay $800+.

Southrnshooter

I got one at a small local shop a year or so ago.  Came with the box and 3 mags.  Paid $750.  Gun was pristine and didn't look like it had been fired.

I put a 22lb Wolf spring in it.  Works good with all my Underwood ammo.

I'm on the hunt now for a 3rd Gen in 9mm.  Had a 659 back in the 80's and foolishly sold it.

Very nice! I'm jealous of Shadow, he has all the 10xx 10mm's

Thank you....
I thought I had been shopping in the rip-off lane or something because when the OP said he got it for $650, the first thing I thought was "Good Deal!" I've seen them for sale for $1000+, which means you'd be lucky to talk them down to $900 on a good day.
Yea, you definitely want to upgrade the recoil springs.

I had a similar 1006 that I never really fired much, so a couple/few years ago I sold it to a friend of mine for the $600 that I paid for it (MANY years ago). He had a heart problem and he really wanted an older Smith 10mm, so I figured I'd brighten his life a bit.
Well, he died last year, and recently I gathered the balls to talk to his widow asking if I could buy the gun back at a "fair" price, but his twin sons, who are now old enough to own their own pistols, like it too much and it reminds them of "dad"...
Oh well...
I'm glad it makes them happy...  dammit...

I found a S&W 1006, original box, papers, cleaning rod, 3 magazines for
sale. The price here in Wyoming was $1,000 dollars and a bargain. Here in
Grizz country the 10MM is replacing the .44 Mag revolvers. I own 10, 10MM pistols.
My favorite is the Kimber Camp Guard 10 for back country travel. I find it comfortable
to carry on horse back our walking. This 10MM has proven accuracy and dependability.
