As with most, I avoid Hi Point firearms like the plague. My question is this; from extensive research, the High Point  10mm real tree carbine doesn't look half bad for the price of $399.00 plus tax. If realistic, I would totally go with CMMG's 10mm BANSHEE, however after my recent knee replacement, cost is a big consideration...Thoughts?
Thanks

Kenk, I posted a while back on mine, some testing and accuracy. Mine is just the plain synthetic stock. It has shot fantastic at 50 and 75 yards. It has never been fed anything but full power ammo. 180gr xtp 9.5gr longshot, 180gr xtp 14.9gr AA#9, and 200gr xtp 13.2gr AA#9.

Only downside I believe is with full power ammo, mine bulged brass to the point I felt they were unsafe to reload. If it was just target fodder, it should be good to go.

with the 180gr xtp and 9.5gr longshot I was getting velocities close to 1600 fps and with the 200gr I was getting close to 1400fps.

the only thing I see negative about the High Point carbines is the low magazine capacity.

Kenk

Thanks Blaster, other than heavy, a tiny mag, and other odd overall configuration issues, it appears to be a solid weapon for the price, will be ordering one shortly  : )

Thanks Blaster, I take it the recoil is is relatively low  / manageable?

I don't own a High Point carbine but I have come close to buying one a couple of times. the small magazine capacity is what held me back.

Lol, me too, because this would be primarily for hunting, I think I will be able to get past the mag size, plus it's so inexpensive it's hard to go wrong

make sure you remove the rubber cheek rest, it will rip the facial hair out during recoil! It has an adhesive backing so remove it and clean it off the stock.

Thanks man, That's what I have read, is the overall perceived recoil relatively low?

It's not bad, I believe the spring actuated stock makes the recoil impulse a little different, its snappy due to this and it's a hard plastic and in colder weather it stings a little bit after a while. That being said, controlled rapid fire is easy, I have a 3x9x40 scope on mine.

In all honesty, I bought it, wanting to hate it, that didn't happen. I have abused it with full power loads. It has fed them, its accurate out to 75 yards, that's the distance I've used mine at. For a cheap knock around rifle 10mm, it really cannot be beat.

I put mine in a High Tower Armory Bullpup Stock.  Runs great.  Very low recoil for a blowback gun.  My Ruger PC Carbine in 9mm has heavier recoil than my 10mm Hi Point in the HTA stock.  Can't speak to the difference between the original stock and the HTA.  Never shot it in stock format.

I looked into the HTA Hi-Point setup but was concerned about gas blowback in a bullpup being a lefty.. Looks rad though and for $500 total can't be beat. As for mags any .45 aftermarket mag and drum can be made to work with a little feed lip tweaking.. the double stack to single stack/feed is hi-points downfall.. But then again HTA said they would address this with a proprietary magazine if they sold enough stocks.

Ronin if you don't mind me asking whats your HP/HTA setup weigh?

I'm left handed.  No gas blowback from the HTA setup.  Also, the brass deflector does an excellent job of keeping spent casings from hitting me in the face.  Weight-wise it's a little over 7lbs.  Not light, not heavy, but in the compact bullpup stock, it feels heavier than it is.  Once it's in your shoulder, however, no issues.
My only gripe is the trigger.  The stock I got does not have the adjustable trigger.  Apparently HTA stopped selling them because people kept screwing with it and making the trigger worse.  The trigger on my Hi Point wasn't great in stock form.  Putting it in the HTA stock didn't improve anything.  If anything it probably made the trigger heavier.  I'm planning to get the MCARBO trigger spring kit for it and see if that helps.
Overall it's a fun range toy.  I may use it in a PCC match at some point.  It could definitely be used for HD/SD, but I have other guns for that.
