After living most of my life in MN, I've determined there is only one thing other than hunting I like about winter; it allows me to carry my RIA Ultra FS / HC completely concealed under an enormous winter coat : )

Interesting that you mention that as I've been looking at options for carrying my XDM 10 these days. I've carried various 1911s over the years, but my concern has always been how to get them out in a hurry, if needed. I normally use a horizontal shoulder holster as it's easy to unzip a little and reach inside. If I have need to go into a particularly bad area I have subcompact 9 in an outside pocket and something bigger in the shoulder rig. Big power and capacity is great, but with a heavy coat that covers your butt, an owb holster is hard to get to.

How do you carry yours?

Morning Graybeard,
I don't know that there is a fast method when using an OWB holster, other than practicing with your daily winter coat. I subscribe to the same thought process of carrying a compact high cap 9 in my coat pocket, but once again, you still have to in un zip the pocket to get at it. Either way, I'm just happy that it's available. As for the RIA, I currently use a leather OWB rig.

I've actually tailored my coat choices around the type of pockets for just that reason. Snaps and flaps(unsnapped) or deep hand warmer pockets. If I have a topcoat on, my subcompact 9 is literally in my hand. I agree, though. It's nice to have the option of lugging something larger in winter.

Yep, the ability to carry 17 rd's of UW's 165gr Gold Dots is an awesome thing : )
