Hi All. Just picked up a new Virginia State Police Commemrotive 60th Anniversary 1026. It has all matrial, glass case, engravers certificate signed off as #1 of 125. Were these issued to brass of VSP?

There are records that indicate that Virginia State Police purchased some 1026's and possibly some 1076's. There is no definitive documentation (that I have seen or heard of) that they were ever issued or who might have had access to them. Perhaps The_Shadow will have something to add- he is quite knowledgeable regarding the Smith&Wesson 10xx series.

Just out of curiosity, are you selling yours?

I just bought new for 1300.00. Nice all around. Engraving work impeccable. #1 of 125. Gunbroker. All documents. Engravers were "Old Dominian Engravers" Virginian Craftsman.

They were definitely issued to VSP. I have 3 1026's and as I recall 2 are VSP.. The VSP does not have the mag disconnect. None of their 1026's were marked with dept logos or wording. Supposedly the 1076 were for detectives.

I have a historical letter from S&W on one of the 1026's. I just checked it and it was issued to VSP in June of 1990. MY serial is TFD44XX My other 2 are also TFD prefix..

My S&W 1026 is also TFD prefix, great guns as are all the S&W 10XX series were...  ;D

The 60th Anniversary 1026 was sponsored by the Virginia State Police Association and offered for sale to Department members.  It was never issued by the agency.  The Virginia State Police transitioned from the S&W M-64 to the 1026/1076 in the summer of 1990.  They were carried until 1993, when replaced by the Sig P228.

Your pistol is the first issue of this rare series. I believe it to be the finest of all the VSP commemoratives.  I made an offer on it several months back.  I'm glad it found a good home.  Old Dominion Engravers was led by Ken Hurst, who was a master engraver for Colt.  He also worked for Winchester.  He passed away about a year ago.

Thanks for very informative information.  Yes, a good home indeed. She's gorgeous all around.
