I am certain that every long-time member on this site recalls M1 Carbine in 10mm

Consider what could be accomplished if someone would revive the 10mm Magnum Cartridge based upon the M1 Carbine platform. Light, sufficiently powerful and could potentially be a "jumping off" point for the 9mm x 31mm Cartridge.

This idea could be something to "kick around".

Tony Rumore said his was a "One and ONLY One" that he custom-built for his father (that one was actually 10mm Mag IIRC). Well over a decade has gone by and he has not made another and he says he never will.
I've looked high and low for a gunsmith who is willing to take it on, and I've had no luck! But I keep trying...

Too bad. A 10-round 10mm Magnum with an 18" barrel would be an excellent "woods walking" carbine. Taking deer, black bear, hogs and anything lighter than elk at "the drop of a hat".

What a concept.

It would be great to have a 10mm carbine such as the M-1 or Ruger Deerslayer or even the Marlin Camp Carbine...

Something that is light, compact and smooth quick to place on target...Tony Rumore's concept would be a great option.

a 10mm carbine would be great. especially if it took common pistol magazines (Glock, XD etc...))

It has to be in 10mm Magnum to be worth advancing the project. I say this because you want the power of a 10mm Auto Carbine round at 100 yards to dump anything short of an Elk on it's @$$. (I'm referring to brush-hunting in Western Oregon/Washington where shots are no further than 125 yards). The extra power of a 10mm Magnum launched from an 18-inch barrel will have it stepping out at 1800 fps, and 1500 fps by the time it reaches its 100-yard objective. That's still churning out 899.5 fpe.

Think about it.

So, what is wrong with MechTech, Hi-Point, or an AR?

This is an interesting discussion so BTTT.

The problem with the available 10mm carbine platforms is you cannot get enough slow burning powder in the 10mm Auto case to reach true magnum levels, even with a 16" barrel. I own a MechTech and a Banshee pistol and the slowest powder you can effectively use is AA#9. H110/W296 can work as well, but won't reach high enough pressures for a complete burn.

These pistol bullets have bad ballistic coefficients, so with a 100 yd shot, a 1500 fps 180 gr XTP will drop to about 1150 fps, a 42% drop in kinetic energy. That is still enough to maim and eventually kill thin skinned critters like people and varmints, but would not be ethical for medium sized game such as deer and bear in my opinion.

A TNW Aero carbine in 10mm would be easily converted to a 10mm Magnum. Just rechamber the 10mm barrel. It also shoots the 45acp/45 Super with conversion kit and the 460 Rowland with a barrel change. It uses Glock mags and utilizes the same recoil spring for all the calibers. I have one in 10mm with a 45acp conversion kit that also shoots 45 Super. The 460 Rowland has a lot more recoil impulse than the 10mm Mag generates plus more powerful.
