Thanks Kenk.  But I do question that number.  I'm pretty sure there are that many just in TX and PA.   :D

That number is probably the registered number of guns. That doesn't include any guns made prior to the required registration that are not on anybodys radar. Doesn't include any that are "home made" like the ARs that you used an 80% lower on or the 80% Glocks. I've wanted to try an 80% lower AR but just can't justify the jig for a one time event. Parts I got, jig I don't. The number would not include uppers only for the AR platform. I have an arm load of uppers myself, most I built. I'd agree, the number in the article would maybe cover Texas but it wouldn't surprise me that the number is short. We have a saying in Texas, "Guns are like potato chips, you can't have just one".

1.2 per person, averaged across the entire nation?

We need more guns!

Gents. Those are rookie numbers. Get to work. 8)

The more I think about  their numbers, yes, they do seem low. Either way, I absolutely need more  : )

I think it's inevitable that any estimate is low, just because the data available isn't ever going to encompass all firearms. For instance, NICS checks aren't a 1-to-1 number because multiple firearms can be bought using one background check. I'm not aware of any firearm purchase/ownership dataset that could be comprehensive enough to be close to the actual total number; but I have seen estimates upwards of 600 million.

Bottom line: good news from this report. The net effect of firearm ubiquity will hopefully be increased normalcy.

I wouldn't be surprised if the ammo total actually tops a hundred billion total owned as well.
