Reviews go both ways with these and supposedly the current one is a redesign. I'm not quite ready to drop $100 bucks to find out. Has anyone tried one of these?

sqlbullet

I have not.

A search for Springco turns up 13 threads that mention the system.

I got nothing when searching for "sprinco," The I hit revised search and 10 results popped up. Then searched from the front page and 3 pages popped up.

From what I've read, the company was sold and there was some sort of redesign. The older units seem to have mixed reviews leaning to more bad than good. The newer seem to be getting better reviews.

All of the threads here would, by date, involve the older units.

I realize the perception of felt recoil can vary greatly between individuals, but I'm very curious as to anyone's hands on experience with one of these. Reliability would also be a key question.

I give Sprinco the "Gimmick of The Week" award.

I own 1911's that were engineered to use a FLGR. They work great. I own 1911's that use the John Browning "non-captive" recoil spring and short guide rod. They work great. One of my 1911's is close to celebrating it's 100th birthday and it STILL runs like a Timex.

Not for one minute do I believe that a FLGR will make any difference to muzzle flip or frame battering. If you regularly change recoil springs, and tune recoil springs to be compatible with a particular load, your guns will last for decades. I'd rather spend my money on primers, powders, and bullets.

Thanks for the reply WW. I'm not a newbie to 1911s. I know how they work and have done my own mods and spring tuning for years. I have a hard time believing the Sprinco system doesn't add new stresses to the barrel bushing lugs and their corresponding slots in the slide. Slide battering isn't what I'm really concerned about as the gun I'm remotely considering one of these for doesn't batter the frame now.

Basically I'm kicking around ideas for a dedicated, non compensated, race gun for pins as a new project. In 10mm, of course.

That is why I said a search for springco.  Everyone subconciously puts the "g" in even though it is not really there.

:) I read right over the extra G. Thanks Sqlbullet.

No worries.  I tried to link to the search, but couldn't figure it out.  Should have hit the "g" spot harder in my first post :))
