Does anyone here have any experience with buying the comlete long slide 6.02 inches and barrel for the Glock 20. I have 2 20's and am thinking about converting one of them to the 6 inch configuration. All info pro and con appreciated as this is a new project for me.I like the idea if it will work correctly.

REDLINE

I apologize first for not being able to answer your question.  It does bring up a couple thoughts I have though in direct relation to making the decision to go with a longslide kit for the G20 or not (outside of the overall look that one might prefer).

I think to myself;  okay, if I want a 6" barrel there are 2 main ways I can go about it.  One is to simply drop a 6" aftermarket barrel into my standard G20 platform.  Two is to go all out with a longslide conversion kit.

So I ask myself, what do I gain going with the longslide kit that cost more money than the other option of just an extended barrel?  There's two answers I can come up with;  That is a heavier slide to help balance out the use of max load 10mm ammo in regard to timing.  And then I wonder how much it helps in the real world, as there doesn't seem to be a study out there spelling it out.  The second benefit being a longer sight radius.

I wish we had more answers.  By the same token I get just doing it for the look.  For me though, at least until or if there are more questions clearly answered, I plan to simply stick with an extended length aftermarket barrel.  The sight radius I don't need as I plan to go with a red dot setup anyway.

Good Luck on whatever you end up deciding for yourself RRMan03!  Hope you get the info you're looking for.
Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.

Lots of money for the full monty.  Probably close to $500 by the time you buy slide, sights, parts, and barrel.

For $130 you can get the barrel, and for another $70 you could have it EDM ported.  That would probably give you similar recoil to the longslide.  The only thing you would be missing would be the sight radius.

Nope, due to the fact Glock has never made a SINGLE model that my hand felt comfortable holding, I went with a 1911 style long slide!

Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

There was a gentlemen on glocktalk that compared the weight from the longslide to the standard and there was not much of a difference (I can't seem to find the thread though). That said, I went with a drop in barrel for me the cost was the biggest deterrent.

There is definitely a significant difference in weight between the long slide and standard slide.

Redline, to answer your questions, the benefits are:
- Reduced recoil (due to mass of the slide)
- Delayed unlocking and more tolerance for heavy loads (again, mass of the slide)
- Slight mechanical accuracy improvement (supporting the barrel at 6" out instead of ~4.5", pretty small difference tho)
- Increased sight radius.

With that said, you can get some of the recoil reduction benefits with a muzzle brake as well (porting is not nearly as effective). The big difference is the sight radius, and it does make a big difference with iron sights. I personally would not bother with a long slide if you also use an optic sight.

As sqlbullet said, a complete long slide setup is expensive, approximately the cost of an new G20. It's definitely not for everyone.

My longslide setup is the Lone Wolf solid top, with a 6.6" threaded LW barrel, LW brake, and 24 lb spring on a SF frame. I've posted a pic somewhere here before, but here it is again. It's definitely a long and heavy setup, but it works very well for what it is. It is comparable in size, and better in performance, to a 6" barreled 357 revolver.

Compared to the same barrel/brake in my RMR'd G21 slide, the longslide has less recoil, and is more natural (IMO) to hit with at long range. I prefer either the short stock barrel and optic, or the iron sighted long slide, over this combo:

Hope that helps!

Thanks. That pretty well covers it for me. Now to look at the Glock AR15 style upper and Glock lower. I am think a 16 inch barrel might make a nice compact little rifle that can be changed back to a pistol with ease. Now the big question is will the darn thing work. Seems lots of problems with any style hybird gun. I know your all think what the hell is it with the 10mm. I am down to one caliber. Handguns and rifles. I am tired of chasing many different caslibers of ammo with none to be had reasonable. So I chose the 10mm. Small,Medium and Large pistols and revolvers and Hi Cap rifles. Out to 100 yards it is on a coke can. Good enough for me. Now I can spend all my money chasing lots of ammo and HK MP5-10 semi clone and shooting. No more hunting 9mm,45,22,3006. I am over it. Just gonna buy 10mm and shoot. May even have an exotic gun or 2 but will still come out ahead with 1 caliber. Yes I have been called crazy but so was Einstein.

RRMan03,
Did you mistakenly post here thinking it was the other post from aussiebob on th SBR conversion? I commented about the Mectec.

I like the 6'' barrel and a std slide. I do see and acknowledge the distinct advantage of the delayed locking and longer site radius.

Recoil is not even in the picture, to me the 10 is not worth mentioning. To me recoil is a 454 in a handgun, heavy 45 LColts form a 4.5'' SA. heavy 44 spls in a Bulldog....  The ten is a cake walk yet delivers bullets with authority because of that lower recoil those bullets are on target.

I dont like the looks of the tank comp on barrels. I did buy a LW comp barrel just after I ordered my KKM barrel mostly because of price and partially because of the estimated 3-4mo wait for the KKM. The LW was under 100 and as it turned out the KKM was not one month s wait. So I have both.

The LW barrel does reduce muzzle flip and recoil. But its also 1/2'' shorter @ 5.5''. It also shoots and feeds very nicely.

This talk does make me think on the holster I ordered from double diamond... I specified 6'barrel but NOT if I had a long slide or not... I do not but wonder if the holster will be correct... :-[ :-[ :-[ :o

Not meaning to get off topic but I'm curious as to your opinions of the DD holster when you get it. I would be ordering probably the same as you with standard slide but extended barrel. Did you mention your after market sights? Did you get an extra mag holder?

I will be posting once it arrives. I should see it by the end of next week.

No I did ''cheap out'' a bit as 50$ seemed excessive for a single pouch to me. I have a couple Safariland dbl mag pouches, 32$ and well made, I am hopping to use. They mount horizontal or Vertical so I'm certain I can make something work.

I dont remember if after market sites where a consideration... Mine are TFO's and no taller than stock, so I'm hoping don't change anything...
