Here's a big shout-out for Montana Bullet Works. At a time when there is so much negativity in our country, it is a delight to do business with someone who truly wants your business and is willing to earn it.

Last Sunday I emailed Bruce Richardson, owner of Montana Bullet Works, with questions regarding a heavy bullet for my 10mm. Since it was Sunday, I had no expectations of a reply coming back for a few days. Bruce responded in a few hours with detailed information about which of his products would meet my needs.

He answered on a Sunday??? WOW! Nobody does that!!!

Thanks to his thorough answer, I was able to make my decision I placed my order late Sunday afternoon. I admit that I was leery of trying someone new. I have done business with Beartooth Bullets and Badman Bullets for a number of years, so branching out to a new source was a big decision for me.

When my bullets arrived, the packaging was what could be called 3-layer:

1. The bullets are packed solidly in a cardboard box with no room left for them to rattle around and deform;
2. The bullet box is then packed in a Priority Mail box and all extra space in the box is filled with packing to prevent movement of the bullets;
3. The Priority Mail box is then packed into a Priority Mail padded envelope to further protect the contents.

Like many of us here, I have a spouse who is trying to spend all of our retirement savings on Ebay.(LOL!) I have seen $1000 purchases she made delivered with less care in packaging than what was done for my bullets!

Folks, customer service doesn't get any better than this!

If you don't cast your own, Montana Bullet Works is the place you want to do business. We gripe and grumble about courtesy and the value of the customer so let's support the people who share our values.

Great to hear, looking forward to hearing your performance with them.

I think I'll try some of his bullets in my 500 SW and 44 mag.   Great looking bullets.

I will add my praise for Montana Bullet Works.  There was a problem with my first order and they fixed it immediately.  Everything has been perfect since then.
Their bullet alloy is particularly tough.  Bullets are pure quality and it's a first rate outfit.

It's nice to know that there is such respect for this company and their products. These are some of the nicest commercial bullets I've ever seen. I expect them to shoot as good as they look!

And on that note...

Got all set to load them tonight and hit a snag- can't find my 10mm logbook! 25 years of shooting and loading 10mm, all recorded in one "Little Black Book". AND I CAN'T FIND THE FREAKIN' THING!!!

So now I have to go back to square one to figure out my load recipe. If anyone has some input I would appreciate the leads.

I'm working with virgin Starline brass, CCI 350; 800-X, Accurate #9 but I have several other powders if you have ideas. Looking for original Norma-level loads- around 1200 FPS.

Thank you all.

I'm shooting their 200 grain NOE WFN-GC and have also shot their 200 grain WFN-PB both sized to .401. Starline cases, CCI 300 primers, and 10.0 grains of Blue Dot. Chronographed just over 1200 fps out of my STI Perfect 10 with six inch barrel. Haven't chronographed em out of my other 10mms but it should be fast enough to get the job done.

You'll have to seat em fairly deep to fit in your magazines and feed properly.

Good report on the customer service.

I've loaded a few different WFN bullets with the CCI 350 and Accurate No. 9. For the lubed Double Tap or Beartooth, a bit into the 13s on charge weight gets 1200 fps. I get a bit more velocity with my own cast and powder coated LBT bullets. High 12s puts me at the 1200 fps mark. All with a Gen 3 Glock 20 and stock barrel.

FYI, pretty sure you can specify Hi Tek coated bullets from MBW. Recommend them for the next order. No smoke. No leading, and a bit more velocity. Win, win, win!

Please everyone do your own workups.

I sent them an email asking if anyone has used their 250gr LFN in .45 ACP. He was very quick to respond and said that he doesn't know of anyone but thought it would work.

So I ordered 100 of them and 100 of the 230gr LFN to try working up a woods load. Very impressive performance and the 250gr. Works great in the ACP.

Taterhead,

I'll definitely ask for the Hi-Tek on my next order. I'm already setting up a list for some HEAVY .45 Colt and .41 Mag bullets from MBW; I'm certain there will be more 10's in that order based on how these shoot.

Also, thanks for the giving me some starting tips for my load. Two #9 loads tried I this morning for accuracy- no chrono today- got me fairly good groups. I really think this bullet wants more speed! I'm home examining cases now and see that there is no stress or undue expansion to the brass. Tomorrow's loads will be .1 and .2 grains higher.

5pins, I bet that 250 gr bullet would be fun in .45 Super or in a Rowland barrel!

I didn't see what bullet weight you were actually getting, but given the 'Norma 1200 fps' spec, I assume 200 gr.  About all I can say is AA#9 gets my vote for anything 10mm related, but I have not ever loaded with Blue Dot.

800-X is simply too much of a PITA for me to bother with.  I think I have about 2 lbs or more of it my plan was to simply bury it in a hole in the ground!  I personally wouldn't use the 350s for 10mm, but you've loaded a lot more 10 than I have it sounds like.  If it makes you feel any better at all, which I'm sure it doesn't, I seem to have lost my load notebook too.

Oh, I've actually used 300-MP in 10mm, but it would have been with 180 gr cast and 180 gr XTPs.  I can't say I noticed anything good or bad--poor experimental procedure to blame for that. :D I'm not sure, but it may be tough to get the required charge in the case with that powder and the 200 gr bullets.  I most-likely would have used 357 and 41 Mag as reference points for working up that load.

Where the heck is that notebook?

Bongo,

Good eye figuring out the 200 grain "clue"! Actually it was an oversight, but there are some smart people here who figured it out. I primarily use 800-X and #9 for 10mm. I agree that 800-x is a PITA since it works in no powder dispenser known to man, but I truly believe that it is the horsepower king for heavy bullets in the 10. Yes, you have to hand-weigh every case, but the juice is worth the squeeze.

As for CCI 350's, they really do make a difference in burn characteristics which in turn affects pressure behavior. I have experienced less case expansion with 350's versus 300's when used with the same load. I don't suggest anybody follow my lead- I'm not a trailblazer or experimenter. I simply choose to load my 10mm ammo to the same standard that Norma designed it. And for the record, I've shot nothing but 180 and 200 gr bullets in my 10's unless I was helping a friend with load development.

one more thing...

Ask your wife to look on the cookbook shelf. If she finds your loadbook there, you can blame it on the kids or grandkids.

Like I did.
