So I purchased a brand new Springfield XDM 5.25" and decided to chrono a bunch of factory loads through it and see how it handled them.  Right away I'll mention it ran flawless with zero failures of any kind. Honestly, I'm pretty impressed with it so far.

The Underwood ammo was purchased late June 2019.  Purchased the Double Tap loads early May 2019.  Purchased the PMC Bronze and Hornady Custom (new higher velocity factory load) in mid June 2019.  The Sig Sauer V-Crown I purchased the end of April 2019, and the Winchester Silvertips I had since late 2018.  All rounds were fired from a bone stock Springfield XDM 5.25".  All my test results are averages based on 10 shots, 5.5' from the CED M2 chronograph.  Energy levels are listed with all velocities.  Test conditions were 85 degrees F in full sun.

For easy comparison without switching back and forth between other threads and what not, I'm also showing all my bone stock Glock G20 Gen3 results when available. G20 results shown in red. XDM results shown in blue.

I have to say, just based on the rounds I tested; Double Tap's velocity claims have been over inflated for a long time and I don't think it's any surprise to anyone anymore. And now in my opinion Underwood's velocity claims are over exaggerated too.  The exceptions being the UW 155XTP load and the DT 230gr Hardcast load.  Neither Winchester or Sig are reaching their claims but at least SIG isn't as far off.  And now we've got Hornady stepping up to the plate with a very respectable 180XTP load that they are practically under rating!  I miss all the Underwood ammo loads being what they used to be but I guess UW just had enough with trying to get 800X powder to meter safely.  At least the UW 155XTP load is still a screamer.
Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.

Good data on the value of some extra barrel length, as well as the impact of lot to lot variation.

All my Underwood ammo is a couple years old, but the 220 hardcast, 200 hardcast and 180 Gold Dot all came in significantly ABOVE stated velocity from a Glock 20, and a 6"KKM barrel added another 30~50 fps to those numbers.

If Underwood is no longer loading that hot, they should edit what the box says. Double Tap might be fine ammo, but I won't buy it because they're flat out lying about what the ammo actually is, and that rubs me wrong.

Do you have a couple extra rounds of all the tests that could be sent to The Shadow? Maybe the pull-down would show something?

Yes, and I like the idea.  I'll get in touch with The Shadow to get his thoughts. But it won't be for a few days till my life slows down a tad.

Be happy to document them although most have been done in the past, things could have changed. :D
