Well I reload this round even when I feel it is sort of old school and don't like it too much. Have a friend who asked if I could load him some and found a partial box of 10 260g JHP. So I loaded the 10 up. Nice to get rid of the box anyway. That case sure seems empty compared to any other load I do as the case is so big. The load was still 8.0g Power Pistol. I think it will thump OK at 260g bullet weight. Not sure if this guy will even shoot it but we will see. Oh yeah it's a Judge he is shooting and I do mean the gun not a real judge, Ha Ha!! Boy they chambered right up in my Super Comanche. Not sure why I bought that gun. Maybe to hunt deer which I have never done.  Craig

Well looking around I have found a small quantity of Montana Gold 230g 45 cal JHP I can load for my friend. Maybe 40 or 50. This guy did say he going to shoot these rounds when he can so I will do the 230g for him also. I guess I have like 200+ 45 ACP loaded for myself and don't even like to shoot 45. See ya  Craig

Maybe you don't like the 45 Colt/LC because of the gun you are shooting it in.

I'm not knocking the Comanche, I have one. It just doesn't do it for me. Now, I love shooting a Colt SAA or Clone, including Ruger SAs, just much more enjoyable. And purtier too!

If I had a Smith or Redhawk in 45 Colt I probably wouldn't shoot them since I have 44s at my fingertips. There's just something about single action in 45 Colt, they just fit.

No I don't like the 45 long colt because the case is too big,the powder gets lost in it. Ha Ha. I have always wondered what you could really do with a case that big. Oh yeah I really like the Comanche because it reminds me of tompson centers I had years ago. Craig

Have you tried Trail Boss powder?

That fluffy powder doesn't get lost and it's softer shooting too. Not as snappy feeling as other powders.

It is a bit smokier though.

Tried it, Hated it,will through it away next chance I get. Craig

I respect that.

My brother convinced me to buy 8 pounds of 800x once for 45acp. He raved about it. I hated it and will never use it again.

OK you all will love this!!!! I had some starline brass so I just flared the case and put in the primer, then the powder. Well I went to put in the bullet and it just dropped in, no chance to crimp etc. Well thought about it and the only way to fix the problem was to resize the cases. I didn't want to empty the cases so I took out the primer punch from the resizing die and resized, then flared, then reset the bullet and I also used a 10mm taper die that worked on the 45 good enough for a nice finish. Anybody see any problems with this fix? Craig

Sounds like a fine fix.

As long as you know for sure that 10mm die is not sizing down you bullet. I would think that you would feel it though if it was, as it would take some effort.

LOL light loads in my LC start with medium- heavy loads over 300gr. cast bullets in stronger revolvers', ie. Rugers or shorts in the Freedom Arms 454. If something lighter is needed run a 250gr cast in a 44 Special over 7.5 grs Unique this averages 975fps. from my 5.5" Bisley, and shoots tiny groups

I believe Vice has nailed the whole point of reloading for .45 Colt...you DO need a Colt SAA, Ruger ( Bisley ), or Uberti ( 1875 Remington ) clone to shoot those loads you've created gadabout...!!

...just sayin' !!  ;D

Did you happen to notice that a .45 Colt case doesn't fit in a 10mm Auto die? Something about circumference differences?

Also, in regards to shooting the .45 out of a Comanche...

If your only experience driving a car was at the wheel of a Yugo, you probably would give up on driving. I won't knock any man's firearm budget or what he chooses to shoot but I can absolutely guarantee you would enjoy that .45 Colt cartridge a lot more out of my S&W Mountain Gun or my Colt Single Action Army.

I've been shooting that grand old cartridge for many, many years. I've used it for target shooting, animal defense, hunting, dispatching injured animals, and teaching all of my children and a number of grandchildren how to shoot. There is not a use or a load that the .45 Colt cannot be used for.

I dare say this is one of those times when the gun dictates the experience, not the cartridge.
