Additional loads with 200gr Speer Gold Dot. I am on a journey to find the best All Purpose 10MM load.

The loads used in this testing were safe in the pistols used in this video. You should not use these loads without first dropping down 10% and working up to something safe for your pistol and also validating your loads in two reputable reloading manuals.

The goal is a 200gr 10MM gold dot at 1200fps with little to no flash as the best all around general purpose do everything load woods and urban carry

10MM 200gr Gold Dot from Kenk
8.3gr hand trickled of BE-86
COAL 1.255
Crimp .422

10MM 200gr Gold Dot from Kenk
12.7gr hand trickled of AA#9 – max load 13gr
COAL 1.260 Gave this a bit more room as it is compressed a little
Crimp .423

A little history lesson on BE-86 and Power Pistol from the great folks at alliant at the 2019 NRA Show. Both of these powder are part of the bullseye family it has been sold to ammo manufacturers for some time under the names of Bullseye-86 and Bullseye-84. Marketing thought when being sold to the general public it needed to have more appealing names so it was branded as we know it today BE-86 and Power Pistol.

Thanks Mr revolverguy for your efforts, very much appreciated!!!

More great testing with the Speer 200gr 10mm Gold Dots with the handloads!  Penetration was spot on as tested in the Clear Ballistics Gel blocks and velocity matched up quite well too!
We can only hope Speer will come through with the production making these available as handloading components, so the 10mm enthusiast can utilize these projectiles in their projects!
Thank you for another great video documentation as many don't understand all the gear and time needed to create the quality work you are putting in to provide us with the information!
Also special thanks to KenK for his contribution of the Gold Dot bullets to make it possible!

Sounds like a nice all around load. The only thing I would be concerned about is over-penetration in a Self defense use. Looks ideal for game. Some great work on this much appreciated.

I wouldn't worry for a second about over penetration.
Mr. Revolverguy is using Clear Ballistics (which is so much
easier and realistic to use and I would too) for a good consistent
media to use but it's not exactly identical to real FBI ordinance gel (actual
real reconstituted pig flesh).  Clear Ballistics doesn't require the difficult
preparation and temperature consistency.  However, Clear Ballistics
often yields about 20% deep penetration (different density) vs actual
FBI grade ordinance gel.  Again the this test is very valid and the work
that went into it is much appreciated; just suggesting not to apply
FBI ordnance gel standards directly to Clear Ballistics tests.

Rojo27,

Great reply and absolutely correct sometime we take for granted the knowledge people like you have. I am thinking in the future data will be presented like this to keep down confusion.

Clear Ballistics Actual Test             FBI Test -20%
17inches                                           13inches

As I am still working on my own scoring system for example
Dayattherange Scoring table
Penetration Based on -20% of Clear Ballistics Results
0-11in      0points
12-14in     8points
14-16in     10points
16-18in      9Points
20in --       4Points

Expansion Results
0-.355       0points
.355 - .384 1Point
And So On

Percentage of weight retained
80%-90%    2Points
91%-95%    4Points
96%-100%  8Points

Regardless of the differences in Clear Ballistics gel vs. FBI standard ordnance gel, the bullet's expansion is the same even though the penetration depths can vary slightly.
What is being shown as the Speer Gold Dots are being tested is they expand FULLY!  We need to understand that as they do expand fully they reach a maximum expansion and as the continue to push the petals do in fact fold further backwards to wind up slightly smaller expansion as measured in recovered bullets!

I would say that at some point in the expansion, they are double their size 0.800" before the petals continue to fold back to a slightly smaller diameter.
The other thing we see is that they retain almost 100% of their original weight being a bonded bullet.  (See this data from Speer below)

These are the exact reasons I have begged Speer to make these 200 grain Gold Dots available to the 10mm enthusiast as handloading components...

Yes Shadow which is why I want to come up with a Dayattherange Scoring system. Just something easier to read.

Thanks that makes good sense and clears things up some.

It'd be great if Sierra would free the 180 V-crown so it could be used for reloading.
It shows the best performance in the gel tests I've read, but is available in the Sig ammo.

Is it Sierra that makes that bullet?

Yes, Sierra makes the V-Crown.

It appears to give the best performance after the Barnes, which is way expensive:

I thought Sig was making this themselves. I know they just built a plant in Kentucky, a guy from Germany owns the patent for the vcrown so I was shocked to hear speer made it.
