Threat to Survival of the NRA

I've just become aware of an extreme threat that everyone who values their gun rights should be aware of.  The latest issue of the NRA magazine "Shooting Illustrated" has an article on page 68 titled "Critical Update" that I think was added immediately before they went to press.  It has a message from Wayne LaPierre, saying that actions taken by Andrew Cuomo (governor of New York state) will put the NRA out of business if the actions are allowed to continue.  The NRA has filed a lawsuit in Federal court seeking to stop Cuomo's actions against the NRA.  The NRA is requesting donations specifically to help fund this lawsuit.  If this lawsuit fails, the NRA WILL be history, and soon thereafter, so will the 2nd Amendment.  As LaPierre says, "This is NOT a drill".

I read that earlier this morning. Mr. LaPierre does have a valid point in the article; the Second Amendment cannot survive without the NRA

LaPierre needs to go. NOW! I am a life member and demand his resignation.

Yes we need the NRA. But we don't need that ass in charge.

There are OTHER, better  - albeit smaller, 2nd Amendment groups than the NRA. NRA has compromised too many times.

DONATIONS TO THE FOLLOWING. STAT!

Donations to the following organizations to show true support of the 2nd

Gun Owners of America (GOA)
The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF)
Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA)
Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC)
Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO)
US2A - https://www.us2a.org/

Add my Life Member vote to getting LaPierre out.

To that list of organizations to support I would add:

The United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA)
Your state organizations (for me, Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus (MN GOC) and Minnesota Gun Rights (MGR))
Local ranges and clubs who provide training classes and local outreach for school shooting programs and such.

And if any organization falls short of your expectations for remaining no-compromise on gun control: don't abandon them, and don't instigate infighting in the firearm community; instead work within those organizations to improve them so we can build coalitions and partnerships between these groups across the country.
"The meek shall inherit the Earth" is a mistranslation. Properly translated it would say: "Those who have swords and know how to use them, but keep them sheathed, shall inherit the Earth". Carry every day.

Weather you like Wayne or not is not relevant here on this topic. The 2nd amendment is under serious attack we have many fighting the huge political machines with unlimited fundings aka Soros and Bloomberg etc.

Yes the NRA is in flux.
Yes it needs to get it's stuff together.
I wonder if it is driven by greed of individuals in power?
I want answers and transparency for
I've Members like myself to see what the heck is going on and get my vote counted.

Gentlemen and ladies this is a crisis. But some of th groups like The Firearms coalitions are running anti NRA ads and running there mouths on social media dumping on the NRA (me) they need to stop thy crap if they want donations from me. the NRA needs to have a big leadership change immediately including ousting several on the Board. We all need to re-focus on our rights and get the fight against the liberal political machine going.

LaPierre brought this on the NRA. He needs to go. The longer he clings on the more the NRA is dragged down with him. I don't support him.

Just for the record. Needless to say. I SUPPORT THE NRA.

Corruption and self dealing by some of the directors of NRA has been going on for MANY years. Neal Knox has been gone for a long time but this was an issue raised regularly by him and by his sons in Firearms Hard Corps now.

I too am a life member, benefactor level actually, but I will not donate another nickel until Wayne is gone and the corruption has been cleaned up. And why did NRA not consider moving from NY years ago? There may have been practical difficulties but I never heard a hint they were looking into this. Certainly a good idea to remain in one of the states most devoted to ending your existence. Personally, I'll contribute to GOA henceforth.

The NRA does a lot of good with it comes to gun rights.

They also do a good bit of harm.  The biggest issue I have with them is the fear-mongering and wedge driving that is polarizing people away from the cause.  The best way to win an ally is to find common ground and build from there, and the NRA tactics are about scaring people into sending in money.

And those tactics originated with Wayne LaPierre as far as I can tell.

They need to focus on safety and training programs, and get back to obtaining funding as a part of those items.  And use the proceeds to fund lobby efforts.

I would add that everyone sending money to the NRA needs to keep in mind that they are a for profit organization.  They are selling a product, and it is no longer one I want to buy.  I keep my certifications current, but I don't ever buy into the "hype".  You should be cautious as well.

I think sql nailed it.  I've been a member of the NRA (admittedly off and on) since the mid 70's.  It's the Chicken little effect.  The sky is always falling.  The end is always near.  Only my money will save the day.  It is a crisis!  So after decades of the NRA screaming that only my money could save the day I am "hard of hearing".  The GOA is even worse. Eventually you start to realize we are all only teats they use to get into our bank accounts.  And when I do give (the part that really pisses me off), it is NEVER enough.

I do not doubt these groups need money to operate.  I still give to the NRA and belong to multiple 2A groups.  But I cannot tell the difference between a "the world is ending tomorrow" email or.... a real need/concern.  The real crime here is these groups using us as fools instead of allies.  Again, I guess it works from their point of view but is less and less effective for me.

This is a link to the organization maintained by the sons of Neal Knox. They do ask for money several times a year but nothing like nra:

The NRA can pound sand. Until they  quit compromising our rights away and they cut a lot of the bloat and as another poster stated fear mongering they won't receive a dime from me.

LaPierre needs to go too.

I thought I saw a news clip where they pushed Oliver North out? Don't know if he was the best for that job but LaPierre is a cancer in that organization.
