Back to the OP question. I loaded some 180gr cast FN to 1.25~ and WLP. The charge that seemed most consistent and fun to shoot was 8.5gr of PP. The chrono showed an average of 1315fps and the brass and primers looked the same as the ones flying at 950fps (6" SL barrel). The Lee book shows a lower velocity for lead and the other sources don't have much info on PP. There was some smoke upon firing which I often see shooting the lubed lead and flash was only visible a few times (I shot late morning so hard to see that anyway). Just throwing this in the thread to keep it on track.

If you come to the 10mm firearms forum and expect us to stay on topic....you're gonna have a bad time :P

What kind of lube were you using.  I have found LLA to be VERY smokey, but others, like Felix or Carnuba Red to be almost smoke free.  Also depends on whether the bullet bases had lube on them.

I don't cast my own. A local shop sells some or I buy them online. The lube on these (from the local gun shop) is blue.

As for staying on topic I'm all for tangents unless the conversation starts circling the drain ;-)

Oh, we circle the drain ;D

In my experience commercially cast bullets might as well be lubed with crayons.  I generally favor a medium soft lube rather than hard, and in hard lubes I like lots of carnuba.

But soft lubes don't ship well, as they are messy when they tumble around, and carnuba wax is not cheap.  So often commercial lubes are basically paraffin wax + die.  It works good enough most of the time, but is smokey and un-forgiving.  Next fit, poor lube is the biggest reason you hear so many horror stories about leading.  They are by guys who buy commercially cast bullets to save a buck without really learning what it takes to make cast bullets work well.

Commercial bullets work well enough, or they wouldn't exist anymore.  Just ranting.  I bet we could cut the smoke way down with a better lube though.

10mmTim, Hello and welcome to the forum!  :D  Congrats on your G-20 4th gen, I hope you have run some rounds down the pipe in the stock configuration to check out for any issues?

I have put a couple hundred factory rounds through my new Glock 20 gen4 without any problems but ammo and bullets are a real pain to get right now. I have 165gr Berrys FP I shoot in my 40 and 155 xtp's. I just got 5000 Starline  10mm brass yesterday from them. Looking to run 180 & 200 grain bullets in the 10mm at faster velocity than most factory loaded ammo. Looking for a place to start at in the loading manuals once I get bullets.

,I have #9,Blue Dot,Longshot,Auto Comp,#5 Universal Clays,International Clay and several other powders here to work with.

As you may know, those first three are excellent choices for full power 10mm. The others are all a bit too fast for full power but would work for varying levels of reduced loads.

I've used Unique, Blue Dot, AA#9, AA#7, and HP38 for my 185 grain loads.
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?
