I'm old to guns, but brand-spanking new to Tanfoglios...and they're slightly confusing.

Seems like someone should have named the Polymer ones somewhat differently to keep us old pharts from being confused...
because I'm wanting to buy upgrade parts, but it's obvious there's a metal version, and I have no idea how much stuff
can go back & forth between the two platforms...or even what's Polymer Only...

I've got a Witness 10mm, Poly, and it has a second slide & barrel.

I was told that the second slide is Old Style...dunno what years that means either...

And the Optic mount is of a type I've never seen before...

So...the second slide needs a FP & FP spring.
Figured out that I have a Full-Size, hence the F in the code...so that's done.
But what else??  Is there a difference between the metal & poly FP's??
Or do I just call D&L and say, "Here's what I've got, what can I get?"

howdy Bigshrek. I'm sure everything on the slides will interchange and I was under the impression that the frame parts were the same too. I could be wrong, maybe some one who knows more about Tanfoglios will chime in.
that is a weird sight mount.  it looks like its missing some parts, I just put a Outerimpact mount on my XDM 10mm. it mounts with the standard rear sight dovetail.

What you have there, is a Full Size Poly Frame with a Compact Poly top end on it, which is a factory configuration.

You can put a Steel pistol's slide on a Poly frame and it will function, but you will have a mis-match at the rear.  See Pic.
The plastic frame is wider (externally only) so the shaft on the slide stop and shaft on the safety are longer on the Poly frame guns than the Steel frame guns.
The plastic frame also extends rearward further than the steel frame, hence the mismatch when you swap slides.

Generally speaking, you can't run a small frame top end on a large frame or vice versa (sort of)  It's actually possible to modify a Large frame slide to run on a small frame, but it's quite a bit of work and really not worth doing.

There are four slide/barrel lengths.  3.5" Compact, 4.5" Standard, 4.75" Long Slide, and 6" Hunter.

There are 8 basic Witness frames (I have them all).

Poly/Full Size/Large Frame
Poly/FS/SF
Poly/Compact/LF
Poly/Compact/SF
Steel/FS/LF
Steel/FS/SF - No Longer Imported.
Steel/Compact/LF
Steel/Compact/SF - No Longer Imported

Thanks guys, it's more info than I had before :)

I'm really liking the Witness, it's WAY easier to grip properly than my G20SF!

Once I get the Firing Pin & Springy thingy figured, I'll be in High Cotton ;)

as far as a firing pin, I had a problem with the firing pin on my first Witness occasionally getting stuck in the slide during dry firing practice. :o I replaced it with a light weight extended firing pin from Hennings gun parts and never had another problem. when I had to return that pistol,(cracked frame) I took all the aftermarket parts off it and installed them on the replacement pistol.  Hennings is a good source for all kinds of Witness parts.
