Its what I use on a consistent basis.

This is good ammo. Never had an issue and SG seems to have the best deal.

While the S&B is made by the same company, to virtually identical specs, I prefer the Magtech.

Funny I was just going to post a question about this stuff.  My local range has it for 17.99 per 50 box.  Cheaper than .38 special.

Have any of you guys ever shot the Magtech 180g JHP stuff?
Magtech says the MV is 1230fps, but then again, PPU said theirs was 1100-ish and I don't think it breaks 1000...

Anyone? Bueller?

I have fired the Magtech and it didn't impress me all tjat much. Decent for plinking ammo.

Supposedly they have upped the velocity on it, but I am not experienced with nor can I confirm this.

Thanks for the reply 4949.
I load my own "hot stuff" for 10mm but it would be nice to get some decent velocity factory JHP ammo for carry and especially if it's at a decent price like that Magtech JHP stuff is...

I see your avatar is an HK P7 squeeze cocker. I love those (own 3 of them; K3 in .380. M13 in 9mm and an M10 in .40S&W). Were you an officer in New jersey when they were the issued sidearms?

Yes I was, 50BMG. I carried a P7M8 for 12 years on duty. We went to Sig 228 and 229 after that. Now we are carrying Glock 19 Gen4's with the "marksman" barrels.

I envy your H&K collection.

the Magtech 180 isn't that weak. I chroned some the other day. out of my Witness, they averaged 1153 fps and out of the 4.5 bbl. XDM they averaged 1163 fps.  not bad when compared to my loads of 10.7 gr. of Blue Dot which averaged 1138 fps from the Witness and 1154 fps from the XDM.

Is that the JHP Magtech you chronoed Blaster?
If so, that's not that bad I guess. It's smoking fast compared to the PPU JHP's I bought on the cheap before...  :(

I guess I'll have to try it out...
Thanks!

I fell in love with the P7 series when in the late 80's when somebody on the range let me shoot their 9mm one; I was hooked. I've been slowly collecting them over the decades when a good opportunity arises. They gotta have the original boxes, manuals, mags, accoutrements for me to consider them though. They are too expensive to not get everything a collector would want to have.
The trigger pull is so unique on them, it's hard to describe it to others. The closest equivalent I have come to a P7 trigger in another firearm is the Russian Dragonov SVD sniper rifle. The fixed barrel of the P7 pistol really ups the accuracy potential too. Revolver type accuracy out of a semi-auto.

I was so hopeful that the Walther CCP would be a good pistol (nearly identical designed fixed barrel/frame assembly and recoil reducing system as the P7) but the trigger of the first CCP I test fired was about as smooth as trying to drag a cat by it's tail across a shag carpet. LoL... Granted, that was an early CCP, but it was so bad, I haven't tried another one since.
If they could make a CCP with the same trigger I have in my 9mm PPQ, now THAT would be something I would have to own. Being a fixed barrel, the CCP would make great suppressed pistol too.

Do you notice a difference with the "Marksman" barrel in the G19 accuracy? Is that still a polygon bore?

I don't really notice a difference in the accuracy with the Glock marksman barrel. I was originally told it was a selling point for Glock when they were competing for our share of the market. Though, in all fairness to Glock, the barrel may be more intrinsically accurate.....just not as accurate in my hands.

The P7M8 trigger is the best trigger I have ever fired out of a stock pistol. It may be the best trigger ever in a defensive handgun. I have always wanted an SVD. I should have bought one back in the nineties when they were cheap.

I guess I'll have to try it out... no it was the cheap FMJ.
Thanks!

Oh!
Then the JHP stuff, which the factory says is loaded hotter than the FMJ (@1230fps) may actually not be too bad???
Its only like $299/1000. Not too bad if it's close to the advertised MV.
