Oh!
Then the JHP stuff, which the factory says is loaded hotter than the FMJ (@1230fps) may actually not be too bad???
Its only like $299/1000. Not too bad if it's close to the advertised MV.

Hello all,
I got a case of the Magtech 180JHP stuff (SKU# 10B) last week and I finally got a chance to put a few rounds (20) down the pipe last night.
I was short on time to play so I didn't get a chance to chrono any of it, but judging by comparative recoil to the slow 180g PPI stuff I had and how far the brass flew using the stock 4.5" XDM I fired it out of, I have to say I'm pretty pleased with it thus far.
My "seat of the pants" guess on the velocity puts it somewhere around 1200fps (it is advertised as being @1230fps so I think they are pretty close). I definitely think it's powerful enough to be used for self defense purposes and maybe even close range hunting so long as you aren't in rhino country.

The bullets have a nice/substantial hollow point cavity and still a well rounded ogive area so they fed 100% and should be expected to do so, even in a traditional 1911 platform.

Anyway, SGAmmo still has a dozen cases of it at $299/1000 + freight which isn't all that bad:

FWIW, I tacked on a few items to get shipped with the above case (so essentially shipping was free) and I got a couple boxes of the newer 45 Auto Prvi Partizan Defense Line Ammo; 185 Grain JHP (PPD45).

I test drove a couple mags of that out of my 3" Colt Defender and at @40 feet with casual offhand shooting I had a 15 round ragged hole that was about the size of a baseball.
Since I normally carry Rem. Golden Saber 185g +P rounds in that gun, these rounds were not quite as "peppy" as those of course but they didn't feel all too weak either.
Again, nice hollow point/rounded ogive, similar to the Golden Sabers I personally love in that caliber.
At @$18/50 by the single box or @$17/50 if you buy a case of 500, they seem to be a pretty good value as well. Bullet looks like it also might not be too bad for defensive uses either. Gel/water will tell better of course.

I'll hopefully get a chance to run both of these under the skyscreens in the near future. I'll let you know how it goes...

It would be interesting to see what and how much powder they are using in the Magtech loads...

WoW!
Can't believe it's been a month since I last posted here...
Time flies when you AREN'T having fun! LoL...

Finally I got a chance to chrono the Magtech 180g JHPs. They were a little slower than my initial guess, but not too much.
In @20 rounds out of the 4.5" XDM I got an average of 1166fps with an SD of @20fps and an ES of @45fps if memory serves me.
I'd really like to try this outdoors because my Pact chrono is very temperamental indoors under 2 kinds of artificial light (HID/Metal Halide high overhead, incandescent "floods" directly above the skyscreens).
Overall, for cheap stuff, not too bad...
