Some of you might enjoy this.

Here in MN we need to renew our carry permits every 5 years.  This requires us to attend a class, and "demonstrate proficiency" at a range, usually situated near or at the classroom sight.  I have been a longtime fan of the 10MM Auto cartridge, so I have several examples to use for fun at the range with my family, or to carry when I feel I can do so comfortably. I really wasn't giving it a lot of thought when I grabbed my G20 to take to class. I have always enjoyed shooting it and like I said I didn't really think about it all that much when I took it out of the safe to bring.  So, when we go to the range we have to place our firearms on a table along with mags and ammo.  I had one guy ask me why I brought a cannon to qualify with, he had a .22 revolver.  I felt sort of silly, because it makes sense to bring something easy to shoot and cheap to shoot.  Then I remembered that my daughter has been shooting both my G40 MOS and my Delta Elite with me for years, and I didn't feel so bad  LOL.  As usual, the old G20 was a pleasure to shoot.  Anyway I don't really post much here, but I enjoy reading stuff, and have learned a lot.

Good Day All.

Desmos1701, down here in Louisiana we also have a renewal process every 5 years.  I have used the 10mm during some of my renewal classes, once I used the G-29 with 40S&W conversion barrel because the brass didn't matter as much.  But the last renewal I used the G-30 because I started carrying more due to places where I travel and likely be in close quarters should an incident occur.  The lady next to me was shooting the small 22 and she at first was startled by the report of the 45 (even with ear protection), after talking with her some she understood that she might need to step up her firearm of choice.

I do tend to change things up sometimes, situational analysis plays a into my carry of choice.  There are times when I carry with a 380...

Same for the NRA Basic Pistol Instructor class.  You have to shoot for score to qualify, but can shoot whatever you want.  At the time I had no 22LR pistols though, so I qualified with some softball loads in my EAA witness.  Had the best score in the class.  10mm is a bit harder to shoot, but also cuts a bigger whole.  I had a couple of 10's on that target that would have been a 9 with a .22 caliber whole.

I took my Coonan. ;D
Got a lot of looks and the instructor actually tried it out.

I had to go early to get paperwork for the NRA certified pistol course. The man there said I could shoot to try the course and all I had with me was a Taurus that I had just bought and it shot so bad I had to come back with a different gun. Grabbed a S&W 5906 and shot a 60 out of 60 for a perfect score . Made me feel good.  In Ohio the renewal for CCW  is ever 3 years and is just show up and talk about it and they give you a new license. Very easy.

In Ohio, especially Hamilton County, we need to make an appointment with the sheriff's department.  When you are at the appointment, you present your paperwork and your cash to the clerk and you get your fingerprints scanned.  This happens every 5 years.  If everything is OK,  you are called early in the morning saying to pick up your new license.  This has been my experience.  Other than my original license, this will be my second 5 year renewal.

I have a License To Carry in my state as well as the LEOSA national carry as well. My state stopped the firearms qualifications for the License To Carry Renewal. However, LEOSA requires an annual firearms qualification certificate. They do not require us to qualify with any particular gun/caliber. However, I qualify with the gun that is my EDC, a 10mm full size all steel Night Hawk Custom 1911 pistol. I carry it because it's my best handgun. It is a little more challenging to qualify with a 1911 pistol using 10rd magazines because the course is designed for pistols with at least 12 round capacity between reloads. But, it's worth it. They say you should practice the way you would fight because you will fight the way you practice. The reason I keep the state License To Carry is because LTC holders are exempt the NICS check when purchasing firearms in Texas. It's also nice to have a backup license in the event something happened and one expired for some unusual reason.

all we have to do in Fla. is fill out the renewal paperwork when it comes and send a check back with it. ;D

I do the same here in Idaho, the enhanced CCW is good in 37 states and is good for 5 years I also have LEOSA , if for some reason it expired I am still good in neighboring states.. Only difference I noticed is that with either permit no NICS check is required.
