What has Mr. Revolver Guy been up to...Day At The Range
Seems he's been checking out various oil/lubrication products

Very cool!

I see Rem-Oil twice on the Coefficient of Static Friction #2?

In his test, he semi endorses Froglube which is 100% biodegradable and is considered food grade. You need to know the ingredient that makes it good at being anti-corrosive is coconut oil. There's nothing wrong with coconut oil as a corrosion preventing agent. But it's a lousy lube for when things get hot. Guns, like an AR platform, can easy have moving parts running at well over 425F, the absolute limit you'd want to push any coconut oil based lube. Like most anything, there are products for all kinds of applications. On a 1911, some will use a grease, some will use an oil. I use both on my guns. I also use ESSO Rustban 392 on any weapon that is going to be stored for any length of time. It's an anti-corrosion coating that is used on offshore oil rigs. You can find similar products at most any chemical company. I know of no 100% lube that covers all of the bases with having great lubricity in all temps, provides a boundary lube that can't be wiped away, and is a 100% corrosion proof fluid. If all of those are issues for you, you are looking at several products to achieve the goal.

Mr Revolver Guy went to a lot of expense and LOTS of labor to perform this test. WE owe him thanks for the test. But there are many ways to test a lube and it's just not feasible for anyone to do at home IF you want to know all of the characteristics of a lube, such as high heat stability or high heat oxidation. Is the lube reactive to free radical oxygen? Is the lube hygroscopic? Does it require a tackifier? Are there any polymers in the formulation? Will the biodegrabable lube support mold growth? These and many other questions about a gun lube cannot be answered at home.
