For sure, I have one shop that I do 99% of my business at. The folks there are not only extremely knowledgeable, but are really fun to just hang out with

I don't appreciate the stereotypes of all gun store clerks are morons. I've helped as a clerk in my friends shop hundreds of times over the last 15 years. I damn sure know more about guns than 99.5% of people that graced those doors.

It wasn't my intention in starting this thread to insinuate that all gun store clerks are morons. I would say that the vast majority I've met in the 42 years I've been involved in shooting sports are not. I was only hoping to swap a few stories of those that are sub par and hopefully with a little humor.

If you want to include dumb things said by customers, please do. I'd be happy to start that off. I was at the gun shop/indoor range some friends of mine own. A guy comes off the range into the shop and wants to complain about the ammo they sold him. He has a 9mm case in his hand that's 9mm at the base and the top half has expanded to .40 almost perfectly. The fact that he had 9mm and .40 Glocks with him wasn't enough of a clue. :)

Easy there Overkill.... No reason to get your feathers ruffled, no personal offense intended.  Nowhere in this thread does anyone even obliquely suggest ALL gun store clerks are morons.  I'll bet everyone here will agree that the overwhelming majority of their interactions with gun store personnel have been polite, respectful, constructive, educational & funny!  In my case, some have become personal friends.
That doesn't diminish in the slightest the examples ranging from pompous, curmudgeon, arrogant, condescending, factually challenged and uninformed, tacticool Delta Force operators that at one occasion or another we've all encountered working at a gun store & gun shows.
That's what makes this thread funny regardless of where your from funny so funny.

About 25 years ago I was in a LGS shopping for a Sig P220 in 45 acp (before the days of the Internet).
I owned a couple other pistols at the time but not 45 acp yet.  I'd been thinking about it and done enough research to decide the Sig P220 was the way I was going.  I was out shopping that day specifically to buy a new pistol.
So I'm at the counter looking at the merchandise.  With a huff & hard look from head to toe and prejudged disdain for lost valuable newspaper reading time the crusty curmudgeon ambled over to the sales counter when I asked to see the Sig.  They had the model I was looking for and on examination it was a good specimen (no I didn't dry fire it).  The salesman couldn't have been more bored and less helpful if he tried.  While examining the pistol (I'd made up my mind to buy it), I politely enquired about what brands & quanties of 45 ammo they had had in stock.  Still maintaining the same disapproving look of disdain the clerk flatly informed me "kid, if you need to ask how much the ammo is you can't afford it or the pistol."  I laughed, handed him back the pistol, apologized for disturbing his newspaper reading time and walked out of the store.  Drove to the next nearest LGS that had the model I was looking for and a polite salesperson.  30 minutes after that I drove home with my new pistol, a case of practice ammo and several boxes of defensive ammo.

I jumped the gun, and you have my apologies. Trust me, I've ran into some nice ones in my days too. There's been more than one helping in the same shop I have, that couldnt tell you the difference in Boxer vs Berdan.

No apology necessary. All we needed here was a little clarification ;)
