Chrono: Win 175 Silvertip, 180FMJ-SIG/Fiocchi/AmEagle & Blazer 200FMJ

These are all boxes of ammo bought new in the past couple weeks.  All fired from a bone stock G20 through a CED M2 chronograph.  Barrel tip to 1st skyscreen sensor is 6'1".  All 10 shot averages with extreme spread.  22°F, 80% humidity and 1350' Elevation.

Winchester 175gr Silvertip JHP
Winchester Claims 1290FPS on the box and 1200FPS on their website (no barrel length listed).
My results; 1167FPS, ES=66FPS
DRSJR1969 showed a 10 shot average from his G20 of 1163FPS on the "Master Sheet" sticky.
Intercooler showed 1210FPS from the 4.75" EAA Limited Pro on the "Master Sheet" sticky.

Sig Sauer 180FMJ advertised at 1250FPS (no barrel length listed).
My results;  1127FPS, ES=63FPS
Intercooler showed 1226FPS from the 4.75" EAA Limited Pro on the "Master Sheet" sticky.

Fiocchi 180FMJ advertised at 1250FPS from a 5" barrel.
My results;  1098FPS, ES=48FPS     Note - one primer didn't go off the 1st time (was dented) but did for the 2nd attempt.
Intercooler showed 1150FPS average from the 4.75" EAA Limited Pro in July 2018.

American Eagle 180FMJ advertised at 1030FPS (no barrel length listed).
My results;  1004FPS, ES=38FPS
DRSJR1969 showed a 5 shot average from his G20 of 1037FPS on the "Master Sheet" sticky.
Intercooler showed 1118FPS from the 4.75" EAA Limited Pro on the "Master Sheet" sticky.

Blazer Aluminum Case 200FMJ advertised at 1050FPS from a 5" barrel.
My results;  988FPS, ES=42FPS
DRSJR1969 showed a 15 shot average from his G20 of 1005FPS on the "Master Sheet" sticky.
Intercooler showed 1068FPS from the 4.75" EAA Limited Pro on the "Master Sheet" sticky.

Thanks for the report REDLINE, it seems that these newer ammos are not up to the advertised speeds.  However the cooler temps and the stock Glock RSA could be adding to part of the lack of steam.  But then again it maybe that the ammo makers cut back some on their loadings...

I had great numbers from the original testing of the Sig Sauer 180 FMJ's but it was after I pulled them, documented them and reassembled them then tested, so I may have improved the performance with my resizing of the brass, case neck expansion, and reloading them and finish crimps being to my die settings...

The stock weaker RSA may allow the action to unlock earlier...
The recoil system can hold lock up in battery slightly longer (Dwell Time) to use more of the generated pressure to push on the bullet before the barrel unlocks from the slide and ejection starts.

In the Glock design, unlike the 1911, the RSA has a significant impact on on the unlock timing of the barrel.  Especially for higher impulse loads, a stronger recoil spring, and a non-captive RSA design can provide lower extreme spreads and higher velocity, as well as fewer "smiled" cases.

I have heard the Sig loads have been found to be lacking these days. Has anyone pulled one to see?

The WST's are more than likely the newer ones (weak) based on a 5.9" barrel. The originals were loaded good!

I recently shot a few of my Silver tips (from a lot mfg in 2010) and I must say the recoil impulse was much sharper than my  180g load with 8.5(6) gr BE-86.
I shot 4 out of my Tangfolio Hunter w/20# recoil spring. I noticed both loadings give me a pronounced primer wipe.
I may have to pull one of these down to see if they still might have been using Win 571 (HS7 eq) powder in them.

Primer wipe like that is pretty standard for the Tanfoglio design.

Yes, I get primer wipe sometimes with the S&W 1006 with higher impulse ammo.

Considering barrel length, Winchester Silvertips were never at a power level that most wanted to believe they were, and now they're less than that. And why not? They load +P+ 9mm but practically leave the 10mm out to dry?!? I'm just saying they have plenty of room to up their single (LOL) 10mm load without getting anywhere near crazy. But whatever, it's their ammo and they can do or not do whatever they want with it I suppose.
