Does anyone have the Grand Power P40L (Long slide, 5") yet. I'm seeing them quite a bit on Gunbroker and have the urge for another.

My P40 10mm is for sale locally.  While I do like the rotating barrel design the grip is just too big for my hands.  As soon as the XDM hit I quit trying to like the P40. I am keeping my 9mm GP Xcal, it is one of the most accurate pistols I have ever shot and I credit a lot of that to the grip fitting my hand like a glove.

Really? I thought the GP had a rather slim grip, much better than the Glock at any rate. I hope you enjoy the XDM, it is all about finding what fits you best.

I took my GP 40 and XDM 5.25 out today for a side by side comparison. For me the GP fits better and I consider my hand size to be average. I am 5'11 and about 175, about as average as it gets. The XDM in my opinion is not that much different in grip size but that's just me. I have not measured them.
Accuracy was about the same. My groups might have been a little better with the XD but it's still new to me so I chalked it up to trying harder because of that.
There is a noticeable difference in recoil when shooting them side by side. The GP still leads the pack among all of my 10's.
I'm still very pleased with the XD, it's a lot of fun to shoot and runs great with any load I throw at it.

And that is what is important!

BTW, do you see a difference in how far the brass travels after the empty is ejected?

Being at a public range I couldn't get real accurate but the XD definitely threw it further. A couple of guys that I was talking to while I was there really got a kick out of how far my brass was flying.
Heck, they even started helping pick up after I let them shoot some full book hand loads.

Yes, the thickness feels thinner than a Glock due to all the sculpting on the P40 grip. Front to back is a different story.  You might have missed the pics I posted with the two guns overlayed on top of each other. The GP40 has a much longer trigger reach than the XDM.  I was pretty surprised at the difference -

Would have been nice if P40 had changeable backstraps like the other GP offerings.  I am not surpised about the differences in opinion, everyones hands are different. I agree, find what works best for you and practice.

I did miss that post, thank you for directing me to it. The grip fits me perfectly and I'm sure that is why I like it so much. Enjoy the XDM, I'm sure I'll end up with one at some point :)
