Which Underwood ammo should I use?

So I'm a giant 10mm fan and just stumbled across this forum. Simply put, I'm excited! Here is my question. I am going to a game preserve in January to hunt a 4 horned ram and a fallow doe. Please don't judge me about the preserve part. I have wanted a 4 horned ram on my wall since I was a child and Peru is a little out of my price range. Anyways, I have a Glock 40 MOS with a Delta Point Pro and a 7' KKM barrel. My question is which of the following Underwood ammo would you select?

155 grain XTREME HUNTER
200 grain XTP
200 grain HARD CAST FLAT NOSE

I have harvested multiple deer with my 460 S&W as well as my 454 Casull both using Hornady XTP. So, handgun hunting is not new to me. I appreciate your responses and opinions. Thanks.

Welcome Squints,
If they are also called a Jacob sheep, the males are aprx 120-180 pounds. Providing my limited research is accurate. I personally would go with UW's 200gr XTP, as this is what I have used for a similar size Whitetail. I did recently pick up a box of the 155 grain XTREME HUNTER, and am considering trying those for next months hunt

Welcome to the forum Squints08!   You could do well with what your pistols shoots best and most accurate.  That being said the XTP's have shot accurate for me and 180 and 200 grain weights would great.   The same with the bonded defense JHP's (AKA Gold Dots) 155, 165 and 180 grain would perform well also...The cast and solids will penetrate fully and leave two holes in and out.
A well placed shot will do the job and the better the vitals hit the faster the incapacitation will occur.  With this being a desired trophy I doubt you will take a head shot for instant incapacitation.

Does Squints refer to a Fire Apparatus by chance?   :-[
Best regards!  ;D

Hey Squints,
Providing your shot placement is correct (as Shadow stated) UW's 155 - 200gr , Bounded , and or XTP bullet will work great. After seeing some hog autopsy photos provided by Lehigh Defense's tech support team, I'm seriously considering going the 155gr extreme hunter route myself
Thanks

Thanks for the information so far and I hope it keeps coming in. The xtreme hunters are accurate in my setup but I just can't seem to find any solid hunting proof of them being used like the XTP. I did recently see that Black Hills is now making a honey badger bullet which is essentially a rip off of the xteme hunter from what I can tell so that's encouraging. Also, Squints has been my nickname since high school. I wore glasses and played water polo so I squinted the entire game. I didn't start wearing contacts in games until college. Good talk and I hope it continues fellas!

The Hornady XTP is a great bullet, should it  hit a heavy bone it may not open as much.  My deer killed a few years ago with the Hornady 200 XTP bullet opened up and rolled back on itself, expanded to .700" widest .640" narrowest, length from mushroom to base of the bullet .480", retained weight was 162 grains. The bullet entered to the top rear of the right front shoulder, broke a rib entering the chest cavity, cut through both lungs, broke a rib exiting the other side of the cavity and expended itself just under the hide behind the left shoulder. Those who think the 10mm is an over penetrator should rethink what happens in real flesh and bone.

Hi, the attached hog photos are from Lehigh Defense's tech support team, however this was done with their 9mm  Defense option : )

I guess I'd also like to add one more thing. What do you all feel is the maximum range for the 10mm on game such as deer or a ram?

Kenk

Morning Squints,
Personally, I keep it under 50 yards with the G20 and iron sights, and a few times as close as 20 yards. I have talked with a few that claim
100 yard kill shots when using an optic, however I won't go that far
Thanks

I think all three of your choices are more than capable of getting the job done if you do your part and put the bullet where  it needs to go.  I will echo others who suggest determining which ammo choice shoots the best in your particular firearm.  If your talking about a once in a lifetime hunt for an animal you've sought for years; leave nothing to chance.  I would submit that accuracy and ability to hit exactly where you intend to is THE most important variable.
Terminal ballistics:
Your perspective here is paramount.  Do you prefer a round that barrels through like a freight train, passing through and through (bone & everything else) leaving two holes to bleed from?  Or one that hits and busts deep while it expands, creating larger wound channel and expends its energy fully into the vital area of the game (distinctly possible but unlikely to exit)?  A lot of very intelligent and experienced people here and other places have different opinions.  It's your dream hunt so you need to decide which resonates more with you.
Prrsonal experience section:
I've taken deer & 300lbs wild boar with Underwood 200gr XTP.  Worked like a charm, couple of DRT & a 25 yard pileup.
Others here have very successfully harvested game with 200gr FN hard cast and recommend it.  I've carried it when hiking in Griz country for its deep penetration attributes.
155gr Extreme Hunter might be the real deal and seen interesting and promising pictures & stories.  I too will probabky give it a try someday in a hunting application to see for myself but I wouldn't test it out for the first time on a once in a lifetime hunt.

As to maximum distance...
That one is also on you, skill level, the environment & situation, your internal hunter's ethics.
My personal answer: I don't use a red dot for pistol hunting, just tritium night sites.  I practice a good bit with my hunting ammo until I'm very comfortable with my skills in all kind of situations. Freehand, leaning, prone, sitting in a blind, one handed, under stress and winded.....  Each of those yields a different level of accuracy.  I've personally never taken a pistol shot at game beyond 40 yrds away and I've never lost game I shot at with a pistol either.  In my case the majority were within 25 yards.  Would I ever take a poke out further than 50 yards?  Don't know, doubtful but maybe if stars aligned; just too many variables to speculate.

Good luck!

The G20 V G29 video that was posted yesterday may be relevant to help you in your decision as the 155 and some hardcast were tested.

Rojo27 is spot on about nothing stopping the hardcast bullets.  I knew before I watched the results on that video that 60" of gel was not going to stop that load from my own testing of hard cast.

As has been said, it really comes to which one you shoot best.

My G40 shoots the UW 200 gr. XTP's decent enough, but I want to try the UW 200 gr. Nosler load. The 155 Xtreme Hunter and the Hardcast loads are not legal in Indiana for hunting as we must use a hollow point.
I have been watching alot of gel testing for various loads, mostly 180 gr. I also have been surfing the various forums for performance reviews. Based on that research, the 180's are looking good for deer too. Lots more options available too.
