Hi Guys, have organised to import a 9x25 barrel for my Glock 40, Dillon dies are difficult to get here in OZ, can I use Lee 357 Sig dies instead for the meantime? and if so, what is the best die for doing the crimp?,they only come as a 3 die set and I have a 4 hole turret, any suggestions welcome, thanks

Brayn the shoulders are distinctly different between the 357Sig and the 9x25 Dillon.  There have been some who have use the 357Sig dies but it changes things with respect to the headspacing and the working of the neck area.  The brass can crack as it tries to expand to out to the shape of the 9x25 chamber.

Headspacing is critical to reliable ignition and casing life.  When properly sized you shouldn't see more than 0.00" (flush) to 0.002" (below flush of the barrel hood).  If the casings are sized where they go deeper the primer might not get struck hard enough for it to ignite, however usually the extractor will hold it in place.  The more the brass has to expand to fill the chamber is going to be excessive working of the shoulder and even on the first firing you could likely see cracking, splitting and completely cracked off necks.  You will be best served by the right set of dies for this cartridge.

Pictured here are the 10mm / 9x25 Dillion / 40S&W / 357Sig / 9mm  Note the shoulder angles of both.

The Dillon Dies for 9x25 have carbide sizing sections for 10mm case section and the forming of the 9mm neck sections and that is why they are on the higher priced side.  Also the set only has the Sizer Die /Seater Die (with double ended seaters one is truncated cone, the other round nose profiles) / Taper Crimp Die.  You will still need a 9mm neck expander or through the expander powder funnel to uniform the necks to accept the bullets.  I have used a RCBS 9mm neck expander with great success even loading cast lead alloy bullets.

Best of luck to you getting everything together.  :D

Are they un-obtanium due to import/legal restrictions or are they just impossible to find because they are rare?

thanks for your advice, dillon 9x25 dies do not exist anywhere here in OZ, would have to import from the US to get some, wish our dollar was better, they are expensive. Has anyone changed the chamber by reaming with a 357 sig reamer, does this increase the depth of the chamber to much for there to be not enough neck on the case to hold the bullet?

If your in Australia, you must be one of the few & fortunate to still legally own a pistol 😀

With the 9x25 barrel you would not have the area to ream.  You might be better off reaming a 357 Sizer die to shape the neck area to the 9x25 Dillon so they fit your chambered barrel.
The other option would be sizing the cases with the 357 Sig dies, with good case lube and holding the shoulder back to allow a proper headspacing and live with the casing failures from them fire forming as shot from you chamber.  They may not fully seal the chamber while shooting due to the neck angles being slightly different.

Here is the link to the cartridge, chamber and reamer specs if that would help out!

Thanks for your advice, I always find the guys here very helpful, have put out the call for any secondhand Dillon dies locally, maybe some of the old IPSC here shooters may have a set lying around, if not, I know I can get away with 357Sig dies in the meantime, although I may lose some brass.

Ok...Gonna show my ignorance here, and this may not actually solve anything for our esteemed member from down under.

Could a 357 Sig die be reamed to the correct shoulder for 9X25 with a chamber reamer?

I have no idea if this would work, or if a 9X25 chamber reamer is any more available than dies.

Also, if you have a machinist friend that owes you....They could lathe this to the correct shoulder.  But that would be expensive unless they owe you.

I think I have chatted with another fellow down there and he too was into the 9x25 Dillon.  I think he had the dies correct for his setup.
The chamber reamer would bee a little too large to just ream the 357Sig die.  The only part needing the change is the shoulder area inside the 357Sig die, but the steel will be fairly hard to cut without proper tooling.

I wish him luck to find the stuff to get things right for the 9x25 it self.

Can import if I have to, at least dies are not constrained by ITAR and there is no State export authority required for someone to send them to me. Cases however are, and there is zero availability of brass and factory ammo here, even 10 mm brass is extremely difficult to get.
