Morning, I'm getting the general consensus that the 22 lb recoil spring for the G20 gen 4 is an all around good spring weight for medium to hotter loads...Thoughts?
Thanks

Two general schools of thought.

1.  As you have heard, springs should be upgraded to 22lb right away. This is a 5 lb upgrade over standard and generally is used in conjunction with a non-captive guide rod, though you can get springs for the captive system.

2.  Leave your gun along unless/until a problem that requires correction manifests.  Apply corrective actions as indicated by the symptoms of the problem.

I tend to fall more in the second camp than the first.  OTOH, there are plenty of well respected guys that suggest path number 1.

Regardless of which route you follow, your gun should be tested extensively with your intended load(s).  The brass and the gun should be inspected regularly for any signs of problems.  Problems should be addressed, and testing resumed until you have confidence that they system is working soundly.

The Glock Gen 4 guns have different recoil springs than the earlier models.  The Glock 20 gen 3 has a single captive recoil spring about 17 -18 lbs where as the newer gen4s have a dual captive set up that stacks weight better at full recoil, not positive but it was 17 lbs.  By the way, the spring is at its full compressed weight at the point where full retraction of the slide occurs and where the slide lock would engage.  Also the newer Gen 4's have a larger purchase hole in the front of the slide where the recoil rod sits, there is a spacer that was used to fill that larger hole for the setup if using different type rods.  This video might help understanding

Thanks a bunch, the main reason for considering a different setup is that my brass flys into the next county, 20-30 feet, other than that, my G20 functions flawlessly
Thanks

Likely a dumb question, but if I were to go with a different weight spring setup, do you get a complete all in one replacement, or how does that work?
Thanks

Kenk, there are some companies starting to make 4 gen spring sets so you'll have to search around to see.
There was brass stacker; https://brassstacker.com/glock/Recoil-Spring-Assembly-for-Glock-Full-Frame-Pistols.html
Lone Wolf has a removable setup to change springs but weights are not shown; https://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=919020
This is one but the springs are not interchangeable and spring weight not given;  https://www.glockstore.com/GEN4-Tungsten-Guide-Rod?quantity=1&custcol7=135

Then there is this DPM setup; https://dpmsystems.com/

Thanks Shadow,
If you were to do this for a G20 gen 4, what would you go with?
Thanks man!

Kenk, I'd likely use the Brass Stacker™ RSA for Glock™ Full Frame Pistols with the options to change spring weights if it were me.
Although I like non captive setups, I would hope Wolff Gun Springs would make something.  I believe their G-20 steel non captive rod will work with that adapter like the one shown with the Brass Stacker™ setup.
