Or is it smileys? Anyway, how long does it take for them to show up on brass? I fired some loads in my Delta last summer on a hot day. One rd in the pistol with mag out on the first round. A friend picked it up and we both looked at the case. Nothing unusual........so I shot several more. Later, back at home, I looked at the cases and almost all had smileys. Been wondering about this for awhile and thought I'd ask.......

It takes  couple millionths of a second.  It happens before the brass gets extracted from the chamber.  They were there at the range, you just didn't notice them.  It has happened to me before as well.

Some "SMILES" are very faint, as they barely show.  Brass needs to be examined under magnifying glass for better evaluation.  Measurements need to be taken as well.  Have seen some that were faint and others that have started to shear!

It is your safety that depends on the evaluation from ammo shot in your guns.

Odd thing, these were outside in broad daylight. The smileys were quite obvious later....not the kind you have to look at closely. Perhaps the first round was one of the very few that weren't that obvious. I realize the 'flow' happens instantly.....
