Didn' tmost law enforcement go with .40 S&W instead of 10mm?

I heard the FBI quit because they thought it was "too rough" for a woman agent!
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

Not too rough.  Too big.  In the end, the accepted FBI round was nearly what became the .40 S&W, and not necessarily more or less "rough".  The handgun masses ultimately balanced the recoil between them.  The .40 was offered in a smaller, more familiar frame design and size, comparable, if not the same frame, as the 9mm guns.  Ultimately, the 10mm, .357M and .41M were the only cartridges that passed most of the FBI's requirement tests.  The 10mm and .41M were the only ones that passed all (probably when the "myth" began, that the 10mm was about as powerful as .41M), and the .40 S&W did only slightly better than the .45ACP, overall.  The .357M and .41M was used only as a baseline, as a major objective was an auto-loader platform.  Obviously, they settled for less than their requirements.  One of the tested "requirements" was not just "12 inches penetration".  12" into a body (simulated) was required AFTER passing through an average car door (window down) and heavy winter clothing.  The 9mm didn't pass, doing no better than the .38 Spl +P.  The 10mm Auto had as much chance in LE as the .41M did 2 decades before.  I actually carried a .41M, until the office rewrote policy, excluding it.

You can beat on their Facebook page easier. Many of us do often but no movement  :(

Maybe S&W will do an M&P at some point.

reply from S&W

Subject: 10mm

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting us.

Our product development team may be working on such a model. We will not know about a model until it is ready to be revealed to the public.

If further assistance is required please reply accordingly.

Sincerely,

S&W Joe NIEDZIELA
I emailed them last summer and got a we have no plans.   So maybe them saying we don't know is better,  like a we are working on it but don't want to get hopes up until its ready to go to market.

I don't see S&W making one.  Too small a market, especially when they have their own brand of "10mm" to sell ammo wise (40 Smith and Wesson).

Bongo Boy

It's very possible that S&W has a good idea of how many G20s and G29s are sold in the US. It would not be out of the question that over time, sales folks in the firearms community share information informally, and move about in the industry. Could also be that the number is just a tough one to use for generating interest internally--with no hope at all of any commercial market. For my own self, an M&P 10mm Compact and an M&P 10mm Pro Series 5" would be very attractive.

gandog56

Well, since S&W DID build prototype 10mm's for the FBI, we know they CAN do it.

Where the M&P is targeted at contract sales to agencies, I don't see them doing it unless Alaska sticks with 10mm but switches to M&P.

Who's "We"?   Now that I've finally got my 10mm Kimber Eclipse Custom II 1911 running well, it's the ONLY gun I want (except for my S&W360sc 11oz .357 snubby, as BUG).

What's that about?  Do some of their LEO's carry 10mm?  Maybe for a little more help against bears?  (Not enough help, though ... probably nothing short of a 12 gauge with slugs is "enough" for those browns, and maybe not even that).

We all know what we want: An American company, American made, not a 1911, semi auto that holds 15 rounds, within the normal price range of similar style guns. That's my dream. It can come true if we spread the word. Keep telling people about this website. Like our facebook page so it spreads around. Put up flyers for this website at your gun stores and gun ranges.

Bite your tongue
Both my 10mm's ARE 1911's, and a 15 round mag is totally unimportant....at least to me. If it takes more than 8, you should be running, not shooting!  :P

S&W and Springfield really need to make a 10mm.

Sure, but Glock should make a 10mm carbine also.

gandog56

You ever look into a MechTech CCU? Makes your glock or 1911 frame into carbine.

I've seen them.  I'd still like a Glock carbne like a Beretta storm or similar.

shooter1045

once upon a time they actually did release a 10mm ... the Omega , came out of their custom shop . 5"or 6"  ported or not . I love mine .
