Many years ago, I was shooting my DE at the local indoor range. Minding my own business, an incredible boom went off in the booth next to me and a piece of plate from the adjacent trap swung down. It almost fell off. I felt the concussion from the muzzle blast in my chest. The guy next to me was shooting a 45-70 revolver :o Needless to say the owner of the range was not pleased.....

I too almost always wear double ear protection when indoors or shooting under cover at my gun club.

My son was a shooting instructor and armorer in the Air Force for years. He had learned prior to enlistment to use both the squishy plugs and a muff type protector at all times. When he was discharged along with several other instructors, their hearing was tested to determine the amount of damage that had been done. These guys shoot a LOT! My son had no damage, according to him, of course; every other instructor had some if not a lot. In my view double protection should always be worn.
