After loading a few thousand 9mm and 45 ACP rounds I'm now getting started on loading for a new Glock 20 Gen 4...and would like to find a reliable source of Hi-Tek coated 200gr hard cast bullets for woods gun rounds...I've looked high and low for bullets that might be the right one and it seems that one similar to the one used by Underwood in their Hard Cast FN round is the one to try to find..

I've checked a lot of bullet sources (Acme, Missouri, Blue, Summers, Ranier, Dardas, BnB, etc) and none offer such a bullet...any thoughts? Underwood doesn't offer components, alas...

Thanks!

Thanks, Rimrock is a brand I hadn't seen...one to consider...

I'll know more when I get a chance to shoot some of the Underwood through my G20 and do a pull down to inspect the bullet..

I've loaded a couple thousand of the Missouri Bullet Co 200 grain SWC in 45 ACP and they've been great...for the 10mm woods gun concept would the 18BHN vs 21BHN make any difference?

My main goal with this round is to have bear spray backup under my waders (in chest holster) while fishing in and outside Yellowstone Park in October and early November...any thoughts on optimizing for those circumstances?

Your time and expertise greatly appreciated..

Call them, these are available coated :)

Thank you for the heads up on them being offered with a coating.  I have shot many hundreds of them without the coating and they are superior bullet.  Good people to work with as well.

More data points -- I ran ten rounds of the Underwood 200 grain Hi-Tek coated Hard Cast FN through my Glock 20 today. They cycled perfectly and seemed to go where I pointed the pistol though I was concentrating on chrono-ing the round with my LabRadar chronograph.

Average (@muzzle) 1176fps, with high of 1190fps and low of 1162fps for Extreme Spread of 28.34fps and Std Deviation of 10.55fps. Average kinetic energy computed to 614 ft/lbs at the muzzle.

Underwood states 1250fps but that would certainly be with a longer barrel, so I'm ok with that average velocity...I probably have found my woods load for Fall fishing trip..of course I'll shoot a few more boxes with fully loaded magazines before then.

I'll continue to post to this thread as I try out some of the above-mentioned 200 grain bullets with the intent to replicate the Underwood Ammo performance.

Thanks, DL..

Just received 500 Missouri Bullet Co 200 grain 'Steeler' bullets that look very similar to those, so will try the MBC purchase first...will report soon..

Not store bought but I am casting 200 grain very similar to the bullet UW uses. No coating of course. Had a "oversized as cast" or "too hard to size" issue until I switched to a softer lead mix. Test bullets now pass the gauge. Waiting to get my Star setup complete to do actual load testing. Will post pictures when testing and setup complete.

I'll be getting some of the Montana coated, and like MBC's "Steelers" for practice.
I've been using Mobtana's 200 WFNGC for a while and love them-that meplat is awesome! I also use their 260WFNGC in my 44m 94. Really glad they started running 200 WFN's coated, now I've just got to recover financially from my Coues hunt (expensive bowl of tag stew this year) and order some!

Good call!

I have an LBT mold for this bullet. I cast and coat my own. It is great! 1250 fps from the G20 with great accuracy. It loves Accurate No. 9.
