10mm + Newb

I was out at the range today with my G20 for the first time in about a month. A friend who was sort of a new shooter showed up and loved it. 8.5gr Power Pistol under 165gr Blue Bullets, nice volleyball size fireball. Also, I chronographed some Underwood 165 gr hollow points. They came in at ~1340 fps at 5 yards. Fun day. I'm thinking about a holster and making this unit a cold weather carry piece.

Sounds good! If you like Power Pistol you would like BE-86 with less flash...

Absolutely, BE-86 does a nice job when it come to a flash suppressed powder. I have not used it for 10mm, but am confident it will lessen the the potential "Bluedot" fireball that we have all seen with some of the other powders : )

Also, PP clocks consistent velocities for me, and not just in 10mm. I used to shoot a lot of N340, but PP is significantly less expensive.

Absolutely, many folks (usually the guy in the lane next to you) just give you that funny look after letting off a few rd's of BD, Lol, I love it : )

Exactly! I was shooting my 10mm with BD loads and the guy in the next lane had a Coonan .357. Looked like two camera flashes going off. Chatted him up and he let me shoot his Coonan. Sometimes that big flash and bang brings people together ${$default_laugh_smiley}$

For sure, what did you think of the Coonan? A buddy of mine has one, but have not had the opportunity to try it

I thought it appeared to be very well made and easy to shoot. It's not really a 1911, but close enough that if you shoot 1911s well the Coonan is very familiar. Trigger was excellent. Recoil was less than my 10mm 10.4gr BlueDot 180gr hollow point load. Muzzle blast was way more.

I'd probably never buy one in .357 as it seemed to rip chunks out of the rims and make reloading for that gun a one time thing. The need of a tool to compress the mag spring to load mags isn't something I'd like.

It never jammed on any factory ammo and it was it's first trip to the range. Cool toy or hunting gun ${$default_smiley_smiley}$ The owner knew someone who got it for him for under $1400, so I think he did well.

The capacity is like 7 or 8 rd's, correct?

I don't actually remember the capacity, but I'm pretty sure it was at least 7 or 8 rounds, maybe 9. I didn't load any of the mags for it.

Thanks, just asked the the Google, and it looks like 7 + 1 in the pipe. Used to tell our girls that if I didn't have their answer, "did you ask the Google 😀

I've never seen a Coonan at the range. What's with the magazine tool? Something to deal with the rimmed cases?
