I have a RIA rock ultra 1911 FS. trying to put a holographic sight on this thing! I am having a hard time finding the mount that replaces the rear sight to put the sight on. any suggestions? and am I wasting my time with a slide mount optic? will it hold up to repeated battering of the hot underwood or buffalo bore ammo recoil? I am in the process of ordering a heaver recoil spring now hoping that will help some. Thanks for any information/ suggestions in advance !

Hey bearaholic,
I have a RIA rock ultra FS HC as well, I'm curious what sight you are interested in
Thanks

have been looking the Burris fast fire 2 as well as the venom. trying to find a few more cost effective options but I understand that you usually get what you pay for with these kinds of things.. I have read a lot of good and bad reviews. the bad reviews make me skeptical of spending that kind of money on something that is going to be destroyed after 30-40 rounds of heavy hunting loads.  I will be shooting this gun ALOT as I will bear and deer hunt with it as well as waste 100 to 200 round a week of target ammo so I want to make sure I am going to get something that will last. the Burris has a lifetime warranty but at the same time I don't want to have to take a broken sight off every two weeks and send it back to get it replaced and not have my weapon ready to roll in the down time.

You may want to consider the Burris Fast Fire 3. As for holding up, I bet it would be fine

Hey bearaholic,
As with any non-tapped pistol, the mount may be the challenging part

indeed it is ! I have been on the horn with the good folks a Brownells and they have got me a couple good options for the mount. I guess all that is left now is to spend around $400 and see what happens !

I don't have an RMR, but if I were looking for a rear sight base for my Rock I would probably try this one first:

Thanks sqlbullet, the EGW Vortex Razor Red Dot mount looks really nice, and the price is right.
bearaholic, you may want to contact Shawn, Rock Island's Chief Gunsmith on mount options as well. Shawn has been incredibly helpful, as well as getting back to you quickly

Thanks for the info guys! Have a mount on the way. Going to order a Burris fast fire 3 Tuesday. Excited to get this thing in operation! Any suggestion on a company to go with for a heavier recoil spring? Me being new to the 1911 world I am on a learning experience trying to get this thing the way I want it.
