Ah, the trigger. To begin with the P40 is not striker fired. It is a DA/SA pistol. It has a relatively smooth DA pull right to the end when it stacks and then fires. SA is smooth with (I'm guessing as I don't have a trigger pull scale handy) a 3 to 4 pound short pull. Definitely not a Glock :) If I had to compare it anything it would likely be my Beretta 92, but is actually a little better. I can't compare it to my Sig 220, they are just different from each other.

Thanks, that's good info. I've shot several Beretta 92s and found their triggers to be pretty manageable. If the P40's is actually better, that's pretty good for out of the box. Now I'm stuck between wanting a P40L and a P Match Pro :-\

So the mag drop issue is from the past, correct? And not an issue now?

I bought mine in the second wave of guns a year ago and it had the same mag drop issue as the first batch. Never sent it in because the importer doesn't cover shipping even with warranty issues. Sucks having to spend another $70 in shipping to get a new gun "fixed".  My fix was to shim the magwell and increase the tension on the mag release spring via a spacer.

Not sure how to tell if the gun has the mag drop fix.  To date I have not seen anyone post a picture of the mag release mechanism after the fix. From what I can gather, some part in that mechanism gets swapped out. I am guessing it crowds the magazine a bit. You can't just engage the notch more since that would interfere with the follower when it passes the release window. The center cut mag release cutout is this gun design's achilles heal. 10mm makes the issue more pronounced. The centered cutout works (for the most part) with the 9mm guns, although I have seen mentions of mag drops on other comp forums. I own an X-cal in 9mm and it has never dropped mags but I also don't run high PF loads thru it. FWIW that gun is crazy accurate.

Anyone here want to post a picture of your fixed mag release mechanism?  Should be able to see what is fixed with the slide off and good lighting.

I have some before pictures, but never took any after pictures come to think of it. Let me see if I can find time in the next couple of weeks.

Emailed EAGLE IMPORTS to see if the mag drop issue has been addressed, as well as how I can be sure the one I buy is good
Thanks

They will usually reply within 1 to 2 days, depending on if they have to wait for an answer for something they don't know.

Just in from EAGLE IMPORTS

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. We had not received many complaints concerning the magazine catch of the P40 firearms, and nothing recently. If a Grand Power is purchased and you are the first owner of the gun, then the gun can be repaired by any of our warranty centers and returned at no charge.

I do not have a Grand Power in 10mm. But I contacted them directly a few months back and they replied that the problem had been fixed but if I was to get one and had that issue there policy was to send the gun owner the replacement part that was needed as well as the simple instructions on how to change it.

Nice, so either way, I guess I'll have to pick one up : )

It's interesting that EAGLE IMPORTS won't admit there was a magazine drop issue. Seems like a good response would have been, yes, this was a problem in early versions, but has now been corrected

Seems just a little shady. Especially since they won't pay for the shipping to return it for service.

I have the part that will fix the mag drop issue inbound. Will post a picture when it arrives. My prediction is it is a replacement mag catch that engages the notch but also pushes on the front face of the magazine.

Edit -

Invoice shows a #GP37-P40 magazine stop pin, #GP31-P40 magazine release spring and #GP20-P40 magazine catch.
