Garthwaite10mm

Hey Gang,

So I got bit by the 10mm bug (sold my 20 and 29 years ago).  I have a Custom Garthwaite 1911 in 10mm and a Wilson Combat Hunter in 10mm.  I am buying a TRP 10mm tomorrow and have a Dan Wesson Commander being built.  So I'm back.

My question is: what are the recommendations for FMJ range/training ammo.  I have seen S&B for sale and while not screaming it appears to be reasonably hot.  Any other suggestions?  I gather the Sig ammo is hot but can't find it in stock.  My use for this ammo will be training and I'd like to buy it in 1000 round lots.  Any suggestions would be great.

I am sold on the Underwood range line

I'm using SIG stuff (180 grains at published 1,250) to break in my new Sprg.      Also my handloads which I have not yet chronoed, but feel about the same (13.0 grains AA #9 over 180 grain FMJ).

The Sig is not quite Norma or Buffalo Bore spec, but is quite a bit stouter than FBI-lite loads.

(Pick up that brass and send it to me!)

Best full power?

My OWN, I reload them! ;) ;)
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

I'm fairly new to 10MM; I've found the S&B 180 gr FMJ to be fairly powerful, more so that Remington, PPU, or Armscor.  The Sig 180 gr FMJ is a little hotter but almost twice as expensive as S&B. I don't have the capability to load my own; as long as I'm finding the S&B for around $15 per box of 50, I think I'm a happy camper.

I know the S&B is not rated that high but out of my G29 it feels stout and very similar to my UW 200 xtp. At roughly $15 a box I'm gonna keep shooting it.

All I can say is I reload 10mm, and I do not trust S&B brass. It is always the FIRST to split or separate. I don't know what alloy they use for their brass, but it pretty much is too brittle after you fire it. I would rather go Prvi Patizan if I was looking for cheap 10mm supply.

Once I was lucky and scored half a box of the original Norma 200 grain load. That stuff was AWESOME. Felt stiffer than the Underwood.

Norma was well known for being hot stuff back in the days. One remarked that his Norma 38 Special was so hot that it's not even a +P!

Check out Fenix Ammo. You can't beat this price and the power (1375 fps)

https://fenixammo.com/collections/training-ammo/products/10mm-auto-180gr-fmj

1375 FPS is from 6" barrel. Could someone figure what is would be 4.6" G20 barrel for me?  What barrel length does underwood test his ammo in?

Not certain what barrel length Underwood.  However, one could deduce his test platforms are duty sized as in nearly every chronograph test (typically duty sized firearms) on the internet, Underwood comes in very close and not  uncommonly exceeds advertised velocity.

As compared to Double Tap....  Who must use 9" barreled firearms as test platform to achieve their advertised velocities.

Buffalo Bore does the absolute best in publishing the test firearm length as well as ballistics tables for various other velocities.  He provides a lot of additional information on his website.  Additionally, the owner personally responds to e-mail questions.
