Yep! Tony makes a good point as the 224BOZ needed a skeletonized slide to remove mass to allow better cycling from the cartridge!

I just don't think a conventional 1911 is the right platform for it.  There just isn't enough recoil impulse to run a big steel slide like that......or maybe kick the caliber up to .257 or 6.5mm.

Tony

Both of my 5"ers run - you think it's ghosted recoil impulse?

Apologies, but your claiming a gun that hasn't had a failure since 2016 (tuned the magazine feed lips in '16) doesn't have enough recoil impulse.  My experience is in direct conflict with your supposition.

FWIW, the 1911 was the ideal platform 'cause the mag well is plenty happy with the OAL of the 22TCM.  You cannot feed a 22TCM through a magwell designed to accomodate 9mm or 40SW.  Plus it was an innovation - I owned the first I ever saw - it was like Kool Aid offering a new flavor.  Us 1911 guys don't get many shots at "new."

You missed the part where I said it runs fine when the parts are sloppily fit.
Once it's tightened up and shooting tiny little groups, it won't run anymore.

I rented one at my local range this morning, dang it was fun to shoot and very accurate. That's strange for a range gun. It just happened that they had a model 51687 in stock so I had to put it on layaway. Really hate when that happens. The only practical use I have for it is messing around in the woods, would really hate to run across a snake.    :'(

Tony I am guessing the the FN 5.7 has great success because it is light weight slide. My two run flawless. By the way I love the idea of the 25 caliber use the Speer varmint 75 grain HP ..... would be impressive on varmints.

So as for functionality, what are you all seeing in the 22tcm, other than the 9mm swap factor? Another slight concern is the 22tcm ammo availability, are other manufacturers considering this rd? I really like what I have seen from RIA, and am seriously considering this pistol, but... am looking for an overall objective view on this awesome offering
Thanks folks

The only functionality any of my guns have is to put a smile on my face. I like guns that you won't find in most gun shops. My collection includes a Coonan .357 semi auto, Colt Mark 3 and 5 revolvers that are 95% or better, Dan Wesson revolvers that I can change barrel sizes, 3 0f the 6 S&W 10xx series 10mm, many different makes of 10mm and others. Not bragging, just explaining my collection. One day after I am gone the person I leave my guns to will open the safe and have a couple of surprises. Until then my wife and I go to the range about every weekend. We take a "fun" gun (.357, .44 magnum, .45 long colt, etc) and always shoot our carry guns last. As far as ammo goes for the 22tcm, I will buy it when it's available. I feel confident Armscor will support the 22tcm since they RIA are the same company. There you have it folks, that's my 2 cents worth.

Yea great response. I like you are drawn to the less than popular style and make of guns. Like you said fun stuff. I have plenty and I mean plenty of carry guns. But I love the 458 SOCOM that I have for shooting fun I like the Kriss Vector 10mm my 5.7 FNs allot of fun. So I am with you it is appealing. I also am a reloader so shortage of ammo does not scare me there is so much 9mm brass around one could make it if needed. But like 9mm which I do not reload because it's cheap to buy practice ammo the 22TCM seems available. Let us know when you get it and I look forward to your review. Crazy enough one of my favorite guns is my Henry Lever action in 22 magnum an absolute fun gun to shoot and plink with. But I do like the potential for wildcat from the 22TCM it has some potential for that.

Functionality:  The double stack serves as primary EDC for my gf's son over his Wiley Clapp Lightweight Commander. My single stack has served EDC for me on occasion but it is primarily an occasional range shooter.

Ammo:  It's available in 3 flavors - Armscor USA, Armscor Phillipean, and hand rolled. I avoid the Armscor Philipean. The Armscor USA has been readilly available in several LGS in the Houston Metro but I generally stock from Ammo Supply Warehouse. I'm prepped to handload with dies and components also sourced from Ammo Supply Warehouse. Since I also have the 223 parent cartridge by the bucket full ... I am not concerned about changing availability. The bullet is the most elusive component because it is short - they were cheap so I have a few.

Objectively:  If you view .223/556 as an effective manstopper ... You should consider the 22TCM as a comparably effective manstopper. I will admit to favoring heavier, larger diameter rounds. For me, momentum is easier to rely on than hydrostatic shock although I admit both are effective.  Finally, I don't anticipate having hearing protection in place if I need to put a pistol to work. 22TCM sounds like Brake'd 556.   If the ATF let me slip it into a stock I could control more effectively without a stamp ... I'd be a bigger proponent - it flies flatter and truer than I can point a pistol.

Anyone seeing the RIA TCM TAC ULTRA FS HC COMBO - 22TCM/9MM for under 650.00? My LGS can get the 17rd ver, but want $690.00 For them
Thanks

OK, I got my gun off layaway and have taken it to the range two times. The first time I bought two boxes of ammo from the range made in the USA, had all kinds of problems. The spent shell would not eject, was stuck in barrel. The slide would not lock open after the last bullet had been shot. I then shot ammo from the Philippines and the gun ran  flawlessly. It is very accurate right out of the box at 30 yards, I could not be happier with this gun. The ammo from the Philippines cost me $2.00 more a box but is well worth it. I have recommended it to my friends. ;D
