P33v3

I've wanted a 10mm for years and just bought my first one yesterday. An EAA Witness Full size. I've heard conflicting reports on them but I'll give it a go. I really would like to find a reasonable S&W 3rd Gen but they seem to be hard to come by unless you happen upon one.

For ammo, I was thinking of using the stuff I can get at Georgia Arms which has always been reliable for me. Their +P loads seem to be more on the upper end of standard load velocities. The one thing I have noticed is that 10mm velocities seem to be all over the place from company to company. Is there a "standard" velocity for normal loads and +P loads?

Welcome to the forum P33v3! 8)  You're right about the velocities of 10mm from various manufactuers being all over the place.  The +P marking you've seen on 10mm ammo is pure marketing hype, as there is technically no such thing.

You should check out Intercooler's Google Document spreadsheet here -  http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-10mm-ammo/10mm-factory-ammo-master-sheet/

It will show you have a large sample size of various 10mm loads from various manufactuers stack up against each other in terms of velocity.  Plus, he tested quite a bit of it from his EAA Witness.  From there you should get a good idea of what you might want.

Best of luck finding yourself a S&W 3rd Gen someday.
Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.

I purchased 1K of the Georgia Arms canned heat in 10mm several years ago as feed stock for reloading the 10mm.  It is quality ammo, even if it doesn't really reach the full potential of the 10mm.  Fine for practice and a great way to acquire quality brass.

I was feeding mine to a full-size Witness as well.  Mine has the older style slide.  Good luck with your new 10mm, and with your search for a fine 3rd gen Smith.  And, welcome to the forum.
