10mm magnum

Any thoughts on the 10mm magnum? I'm really fascinated with this, but haven't really researched it much yet

My 2¢.

If I were to buy a 10mm revolver with a standard sized cylinder frame that used moon clips, I would ream it in a heartbeat.  Seems like a no brainier to me.

But if I were just buying a magnum revolver I would, and did, just get a 44 magnum.

I love the 10mm in pistol but I think there are many (often) better options in a revolver.  There is not much the .44 magnum can not do.

There's an answer for this. During the mid and late 1990's, some of the men at S&W relieved their Model 610 revolvers chambers the requisite length to chamber the 10mm Magnum safely. This was the beauty the 10mm Magnum reaches .44 Remington power levels without any difficulty or rapidly stretching the frame. Barrel lengths should be in the 6.5- 8.375-inch range to extract the most from the cartridge.

I emailed Coonan Arms as their .357 semi is more than long enough to chamber 10mm magnum.  Their response was basically, "Hmm, interesting thought."

I actually owned gunwriter John Taffin's 10mm Magnum for a very brief time...flipped it for a very tidy profit, but never actually shot it.

Coonan should do a 10mm Mag necked down to .357

That was one of the things Randy Shelley did after the 9x25 he did the 9x30 from the 10mm Magnum casing...  I had also contacted Coonan a while back about doing the Coonan 10mm Magnum and conversion barrel for the 9x30 Dillon cartridge.  This is the link to Randy Shelley's intro thread showing the 9x30 Dillon from the AMT AutoMag pistol back in the day...

I'm not talking about necking it to .355.  They need to neck it to .357 since Coonan is already set up to make .357 caliber barrels.  They would have to buy a special run of .355" blanks if they were to do 9x30. 

I would rather have the ability to use .357 mag bullets, rather than 9mm, especially at that speed.  I would venture to guess that Randy went with 9mm simply because it was easier to rechamber a 9mm barrel, rather than make a .357 barrel from scratch.

Tony, I hear you and that would be great because the 357 bullet selection are rated for the higher velocity performance.   I have loaded and shot 0.357" Bullets through my Lone Wolf & Bar-Sto 9x25 barrels without issues...
