This is perfect under 1000 dollars, front strap checking, front cocking serrations.

SIG P220 10mm SAO.

This gun is built like a tank.   I had the DAO two tone model.   great shooter and well built.   It is heavy, but that weight helps when shooting.   Can definitely take on hunting loads.   All stainless steel frame and slide.

I've had/still have Glock 20sf, Kimber Eclipse II, Sig P220 DAO, and Witness Stock III.

SIG's are great guns for sure I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one. The only caveat I'll mention is they hold the same capacity as a 1911, but are noticeably chunkier. With the P220 you get a gun that is larger than a GLOCK 20, but with 1/2 the capacity. If I were looking at a steel gun I'd go with a Dan Wesson grade 1911 if I wanted a single stack, or a Witness if I didn't mind the bulk since it has a  double stacked magazine in a grip still a hair thinner than a P220. There are a few places that do some nice Witness upgrades to improve the trigger and a few less than stellar internals. Of course I'd still vote for the G20 due to durability, less weight, and a less expensive way to test the 10mm waters out.

I have currently:

A Glock 29
A Glock 20
A Sig 220
A Colt Delta Elite
An RIA 10mm
and
A Grand Power P40 my favorite. I'm sure others on here are tired of hearing about it, but this gun rocks. $700'ish dollar and I love it. Holy cow the NON Browning action is awesome and reduces felt recoil. 14 rounds in the magazine. My favorite.
