It doesn't surprise me any more. NJ used to be fairly conservative in the 60's and 70's. Not any more though.

Reason 1,000,001 to steer clear of Jersey.... :-\

Deepest condolences to our valued and appreciated member from the Garden State.  No disrespect intended.

and my relatives in N.J. (and N.Y.) wonder why I refuse to visit.

This is the first I heard of this.

I will look into it more. We knew the new Governor Murphy was anti-gun, but we didn't know it would be this bad.

So 6,7,& 8 round revolvers too ???
As I recall a court found that to be unconstitutional and they were to revert to 10 rounds. But it sounds like though the judge is on their side the law has not been changed yet. I found this: https://psanded.com/7-or-10-rounds. What a mess!

Good stuff PCFlorida!

I found this from the text of Judge Skretny's ruling in the New Yord case.

"Drawing from post-Heller rulings that have begun to settle the vast terra incognita left by the Supreme Court this Court finds that the challenged provisions of the SAFE Act -- including the Act's definition and regulation of assault weapons and its ban on large-capacity magazines -- further the state's important interest in public safety, and do not impermissibly infringe on Plaintiffs' Second Amendment rights. But, the seven-round limit fails the relevant test because the purported link between the ban and the State's interest is tenuous, strained and unsupported in the record."

I would really love to see this judge go on and defend how restrictions on standard capacity (30 round) magazines further the states interest in public safety.  I have not seen that study.

Do you recall which court Judge Skretny was on?

One can have all the gun's they want in N.J.. Just can't leave the door of residence with a sidearm. The state is a fiscal nightmare.  The Government employees  flock upon retirement to the south.

And I thought California, my home State, was nuts. How did they come up with a five round limit?
Most revolvers take at least six rounds and a five round limit could actually be a hazard for someone in a self defense situation if the trigger is pulled using a six shot revolver and nothing happens. It sounds like a bill that was proposed by someone with no knowledge of firearms.

5 and 10 are commonly selected numeric quantities due to the fact we have five digits on each hand.

This new 5 round law may be a back-door attempt to reverse a Federal Judges decision to block the California magazine ban.
