Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.

As far as I understand, the magazines are the only area of non-compatibility.  And that is new mags in older guns I think.  Everything else is still common.  You can even swap in the older recoil system I am pretty sure.

I may be mistaken but I think you have the mag thing backwards. The older mags work in newer guns except if you swap the mag release to the right side...

I know on some of the Gen4s you have to have an adapter to use an RSA designed for Gen3s. Not sure about the Gen4 20 because I have yet to even have the desire to swap out the stock RSA.

One big thing I prefer on the Gen4 is the texture on the grip. That and the grip sans backstraps feels slightly better in my hand than the Gen3 SF - not quite as blocky to me.

Thanks for clearing that up.  I knew there was some area of concern with old mags and new guns or new mags in old guns or something, but I wasn't sure what it was.

Excuse my ignorance but was is RSA?

s0nspark

Sorry, should have spelled that out...

RSA = Recoil Spring Assembly, what Glock calls the captive guide rod and spring part

Thanks for the breakdown of RSA. Does the 3.5 connector and such "upgrades" work on the gen 4 guns as well?

I am hoping to get out to a few shops to see what people have and whats available. Unfortunately 10mm is scarce around here so I will most likely have to order what I want.

As far as I know the connector is compatible - not sure about other options.

I have a G30sf converted to 10mm. I did put a 21lb spring but see or feel no difference. The 45 and 10mm use the same spring on Gen3 guns
My conversion has been 100 percent reliable. I have a gen 4 27 and it has a different feel than the gen 3. I noticed that same thing with a G21 in Gen3 and 4
I use gen 3 mags in my gen 4 with no issues. The only thing is you wont be able to change mag release to left handed user side.

It appears with the new gun laws in NY that distributors are not shipping items like they were and getting a 10mm new is practically impossible. I have found a gen 3 Glock 20 with 4 mags, 4 boxes of ammo, a cheap kydex holster, and the box for $650. Is that a decent deal? Thanks for the help!

sqlbullet

In todays climate that is a good deal.  It may or may not be six months from now.

I'm going to check the gun out this morning and if its in good condition I think I'm going to take it. It appears that after April in NY we can't buy any mags over 7 rounds so this is also playing into the decision. My hand is being forced a little from the actions of a few chest thumpers.

The pistol was in great condition and barely looked like it was shot. It even had flock night sites granted not overly bright...the kicker is there is a guy that claimed it over the phone and is to see if tomorrow. I hope he doesn't want it but who knows with my luck. Worst case I still have a g20 on order from a month ago at another dealer...
